Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Lukuka had already scored 17 in 35 games when we took him on loan and another similar season when we signed him. Completely different. Your approach to transfers reflects the fact that there are absolutely no consequences to you making a call since you don’t actually don’t use up our budget or face the consequences of making a bad call. Everton absolutely should consider the risk of relegation when we sign players. Sometimes we need safe options to keep us up and we have a history of signing experienced players who have come in and done a job. You just blindly favour youth because of potential. But that’s like giving up a scratch card which you know is a £100 winner for an unscathed one because it might be a £50k winner.

You're comparing goals scored by a centre forward with a centre mid and right winger -- not to mention the English tax.

Kean, Vlasic, Lookman are just 3 other young players who didnt tear up trees that we moved on for profit. I doubt we'd struggle with two of Englands best emerging talents in areas were weak in.

Everton dont do relegation.

Should be targeting 2 players this window. Nothing drastic, just a couple of solid additions.

An attacking wide player with pace and goal threat

A new full back

I think we need 3 players. As always though I'd prefer them to be u21 so we are actually building something for the long term.

I dont believe they need to be starters either. A top u21 left back, a top u21 right winger and another attacker u21 would be ideal. The players ahead of them should be quickly pushed our or need to perform better to keep their positions.

Ultimately, I doubt there'll be much investment if Dyche is still at the helm. Could be wrong but we can't be buying attritional full backs for example and then bring in a "Potter" type. Safety first. Investment second.

* not suggesting I think we bring in Graham Potter. It was used to highlight the point.

Think the window will see. What the plan is, however the team is crying out for certain positions whatever the plan is with the manager.

This team needs someone in the middle of the part that effect the game, two full backs and wide pacey game changer.

That would all of sudden give us options on the pitch and off the bench.

Ashley young has done amazing this season, but we are forcing him to fail but playing 39 old every match. Him coming off the bench is a different proposition.

GibbsWhite when forest bought him would have been a great acquisition for this side, someone of that ilk in midfield would add so much. Strength and guile.

Tierney is the exact profile of player we should be steering miles clear of. We're almost certainly going to have a relatively small and/or thin squad next season, we can't afford to carry players who are rarely fit. It's why Coleman has to be released this summer, too.
26 games for Sociadad the year before plus 7 games for Scotland the year before.

His injury he picked up in the Euro's does seem to be a recurring one though. He would be cheaper than Dele Alli

I still think there are big questions over the manager, if we keep him until the end of the season, do we only sign players that he and Kevin agree on? Becasue if we sign players the manager doesn't want, we risk them rotting in the reserves and we have essentially wasted money.

I think if we had 2 different fullbacks it would alter how we attack and our general play. I would like to see us sign a RW and play Ndiaye as AM, but the manager see Ndiaye as as winger so I think we need someone else other than Doucoure to play as a 10

I would hope Thelwells deal is extended and he picks the players.

Chelsea signed Lukaku and played him 15 times, any idea how many goals he scored? On loan at WBA he often struggled to play the full 90mins -- Everton were the only club in for him at £28mil*

Over 11 years later that fee in football transfers may now be the equivilent of £60mil. Is it out of the realms of reality that Dibling & Rigg combined may be as good as Lukaku... Might both be worth huge amounts in potential transfer funds like Lukaku or could they become excellent players for Everton :o

You mention "video games" and then a "condescending tone" but then open the possibility that Dibling and Rigg cant have superior careers to Jack Harrison???

It becomes apparent (again) that you dont know the players.

"He was genuinely top 10 most talented teenagers in world football when Chelsea signed him. Chelsea"

-- No idea WTF that is supposed to mean. Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea ???!!!

Your comment on Gordon being sold is not quite true. Gordon was sold because he downed tools and made a transfer request and the fee was needed for PSR.

Totally different situation to Branthwaite.

*Lukaku was a super player and i was amazed we signed him. One of the best players weve had at Everton in my life.

It sounds like back then you'd have worried about signing him and getting relegated. Do you stay home all day as youre frightened to go outside, scared to cross the road? Is your room filled with bubble wrap, are you wearing a nappy?

Everton not signing a player or two because youre worried about getting relegated...thats bizarre.
Everton were the only club in for him at 28m? Is this just in your head?

Chelsea signed Lukaku at their peak, they were one of the biggest and most successful teams in the world at that point and still saw Lukaku as a prospect who could break into their first team.

All due respect to Rigg and Dibling they may never be as good as Jack Harrison, they may never achieve what he has. That’s a fact, they may well achieve far far more (their talent suggests as much) - what I’m saying is in our current guise we can’t speculate that for 60m.

If you think we can then best of luck to you, in the real world Jack Clarke (far better than either of them currently) has really struggled so far in the prem.

We’d be signing for the future whilst relegating ourselves in the present, bizarre policy.

Were any of these u21;

Lescott
Arteta
Cahill
Baines
Pienaar
Jagielka

When we signed them?

All could/were moved on for more than we paid for them and yet we still had several years of exemplary performances on the whole.

Players don’t have to be u21 to hold value/develop. Again get off FM for a minute and live in reality.
