Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Very different age profiles though.

Signing a 25 and 26 year old from the championship 'may' bring a good premier league player...on the other hand an average squad player.

As you know, going for the younger players may not bring instant rewards but at the same price points...far greater potential upside.

Going back a few years, if we had signed Branthwaite for £30mil we'd all be delighted with that business now.

Obviously we need a mix of players but i think our focus should be on the u21 bracket simply because they offer us the greater upside.
That's not guaranteed though, not every young player is a potential superstar and I watch a lot of Championship football and would say you are paying for the name not the ability at the moment with Bellingham. I think we need to focus on a mixture of players of most ages preferably under the ages of 27 (Like Thelwell said) We are going to have a new manager with a new system in a new stadium, its very hard to guess what the team will look like tbh.

For sure. I wasnt specifically talking about Bellingham, just a general point.

If we look at Roma theyve had a bit of a scattergun approach to signings and the age groups. The DOFs centre midfield duo of Le Fee and Kone have barely played together.

I would be very happy if we are going into next season with 5 u21 players rotating as part of an e.g 23 man squad. That may include Armstrong and Dixon.

Otherwise, I'd be looking at the u23 and u25 age profile rather than 27. May seem to be splitting hairs but if we brought in a couple who do well at that age we can generate potentially higher profits or, seek to continue with a long term strategy of building out the squad.

At 26 after a season theyre 27 and not too many seasons away from seeing a drop in value.

Have you read moneyball mate?

I know it will divide opinions but we should try and bring Richy back for at least a loan till the end of the season if Spurs want. I mean ideally we bring a right winger. But Richy will bring goals, January is the not the month you get the best players out there and he might feel up for coming home and save us again

Problem with Richy is he's so frequently injured down there. Ange actually likes him but he makes an impact in a game (Villa 4-1 when he was excellent when he came on) but gets injured and out for two months.

He'll be ahead of Timo Werner when he's fit again and Son is in his 30s now and lost a yard of pace so don't see Spurs loaning him out.

As long as the deals have "market value", it's fine.

Looking at that bench today, it's so dire...one key injury and we have to rely on players like harrison today. Supposedly our new owners are very impressed with thelwell...he better deliver in January, and I am not talking deadline day. We need new players by January 1st ready to go, or at the very least within the first 2 weeks. He had months to look at the market and the positions that needs reinforcement. However I have no trust at this stage that he will deliver unfortunately. It's about accountability and our windows have been very average or poor in the last couple of years...no excuses, has to deliver.

Pressure is on across the board now. Everyone knew Moshiri was a lame duck owner so there was no real accountability. However, I do accept that Thelwell has had very little leeway to get decent deals done given the financial situation at the club. Still on the fence tbh.

January is crucial if there’s any form of money to spend then quick deals are a must.
