Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Can we realistically value DCL anything more than £5m? Very poor goals return and out of contact in June. Surely he’ll not agree anywhere and pocket the £5m himself

There’s some important questions we need to be asking of the recruitment team.

How long does a staff have to be for it to be considered long?

What unit of measurements are we talking about?

What length are the other staffs this particular staff is being compared to?

If we’re talking a slightly above average staff, is it really worth it?
Also, if we signed both Longstaffs, would we have to call them Longerstaffs on their shirts?

Any deal involving DCL, should it actually happen, won’t take place until right at the end of the transfer window imo.

DCL still thinks that a worldwide blue chip club will be willing to meet his wage demands of 130k plus just because he’s available on a free. There was once a time when I wouldn’t have dismissed this, but that time has been and gone.

The truth is that he’s a donkey in front of goal, and the list of clubs interested in him is going to be small and they aren’t going to be ‘blue chip’ either. However DCL won’t accept that until the reality is staring him in the face, right at the end of the transfer window.

Any scout worth his salt will see him being underused in a poor attacking side.

When he leaves Everton he will score 20+ goals.

Great in theory, similar to Dobbin/Iroegbunam.

If we look forward 12-24-36months though, we're going to be paying an average at best midfielder.

If we value DCL at £25mil and signed e.g Hall or Barnes at £40mil were fine from a PSR standpoint + we get an improvement at left back or left wing (Ndiaye central).

That would make sense for us AND give Newcastle approximately the same wiggle room on PSR.
Villa will probably sell dobbin in 18 months after he’s had 2 years in the Championship and his book value is 5 mil, for a similar fee to break even on the deal, he was never going to break into a Villa team challenging for the top 4. Us paying 25mil
For longstaff would be a crazy idea

Agreed. Has to be a top up imo for Barnes/Hall to entice Newcastle to sell -- then both teams benefit.

I'd be disappointed with Longstaff. The only caveat as someone posted earlier is if the money enabled us to bring in top young quality in crucial areas.

Even then wed need to give Longstaff a decent wage and it would be frustrating.

I think there’s better ways around it and that’s what we should be looking at. Personally I would wait till the summer as we have till July the 1st to balance this years accounts and if we need to raise 10mil
Than potentially spending 40mi on Sean longstaff, because we will be stuck with him till he’s goes on a free.
We have to box a bit cleverer than that imo

The best way around it would be to remove ourselves from massively inflated payday loans (which we have already done) and introduce a bumper new sponsorship deal (which I think will be announced in that period between the end of the season and the next accounting period). I think this removes all of the PSR hysteria without any player trading tbh.

But the rumoured swaps are for assets that have value and are at risk at leaving for nothing in just a few months time, and I therefore see the sense in why such swap deals would be worthwhile.

Of course nobody would really want to invest 25 million in Longstaff, but in reality it wouldn’t be an investment, it would be a swap of two depreciating assets. The payment of Longstaff will be met by the sale of DCL… who is about to walk on a free.

It would be about both clubs showing a 25m profit on each player.

I get it, but like has
been mentioned, go for one of their better younger players who has at least some potential to get better or improve our team,
With the chance of sell on value. For whatever we main gain from the deal in January or the summer, we wil still have singed an average player for big fee and probably wages who wil be stick with for 4/5yrs

I think our DoF really rates the boy.
