Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

It’s unsettling we’re linked with centre midfielders mate.

If we drop another 20 mill on a signing and don’t bring in full backs or pacy right winger, a smiteing will go down.

….agree, a right sided attacker with real quality who carries genuine threat has to be a priority. My only concerns are it’ll be a massive admission of failure having brought in Harrison and Lindstrom, and given that record I couldn’t trust us bringing in the quality we need.

Same goes with most forward signings Kev has made.
Maupay, Beto, Danjuma, Lindstrum

N'diaye is probably his only hit in sense of forwards

We absolutely do need a central midfield player because although we do currently have options, we lack any sort of quality in the most vital area of the pitch. Every central midfield player currently on the books are bang average at best and we lose every single midfield battle no matter who we come up against.
No point having decent centre mids if your manager tells you to pump balls over their heads rather than through them.

A midfielder who can pass the ball and control a game would be wonderful with a new manager.

Not sure how much leeway we have with loans but I’d imagine better quality coming from that market. January is a notoriously difficult time to 1. Do business generally and 2. Get value and because of our precarious position (again).

I’d imagine it is difficult to get the quality of player in (who is going to join us permanently if they think we are at threat of relegation) and clubs will charge us that little but more because of our new owners and the fact we are desparate.

I think loans would be the way to go to get the short term hit we need for this season from the quality and £ needed due to PSR but as I say, not sure of the loan capacity.

2 were on loans, 1 was on the basis that we didn’t have to pay anything for a year (which clubs would go for that) and the rumour was Maupey was the managers choice

Naively maybe I want to focus on the good attacking players we appear to have been linked with but didn’t have the finances to secure

No domestic loans available unless we send Harrison back which isn’t going to happen with Dyche as manager.

…..our record on loanees hasn’t been the best. Danjuma, Harrison and Lindstrom all a bit underwhelming hopefully Broja and Mangala can buck the trend but it’s not an area we’ve effectively exploited.

Agreed, but it doesn’t mean we can’t. Prior to that we had the likes (under Moyes) of Donovan, Lukaku, Barry, Pienaar. We just need the right talent spotters. I think also loan markets do put a limit on the talent you can acquire (e.g. no on loans out their better players or budding superstars) but I just can’t see how we get the quality in at this stage of the season and in our position on permanents, unless some come from championship.

We’ve once again landed ourselves in a right pickle.

…agree, there’s absolutely no doubt we need new people in charge of transfers but the window opens tomorrow

I love this notion if dyche stays that he just needs a quality winger to implement his game, dyche never possessed an offense game beyond deep lying midfielders who sat on the wings and pummeled in crosses to a target man, you could sign an exceptional winger with pace that's always craved for , but they would be inefficient and deemed substandard as poor tactical implementation hinders a player to excel regardless of their talent

A competent left full and right winger could be very enabling.

A hard truth though is the profile of the club and how attractive it is to any player at the moment for the type of profile of player we might want, we could probably attract a Fellows or Gnonto, but there clubs would a premium for the inonvience in January given there own positiions.

Realistically all we can offer from now to late May is a relegation battle, so we have two choices either look for a high profile player and make the same mistakes as the past and over pay them to attract them here or we go for those who have not yet got fire at this level.

Its a difficult juxtaposition to be in to needing something right now and also building for the future - with who we could attract.
