Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

We absolutely do need a central midfield player because although we do currently have options, we lack any sort of quality in the most vital area of the pitch. Every central midfield player currently on the books are bang average at best and we lose every single midfield battle no matter who we come up against.

If we're operating in limits mate - there are different positions id priorities myself, i don't think our resources are exhaustible be that internally or externally dictated and prioritising central midfield strikes me as a bit Jake O Brien.

I can see why we might be in the market for a cm with Garner and Tim being possibly weeks away from featuring and not being able to change it up in cm and being stuck with Doucoure starting with them 2 being out.

However it's definitely not the first or 2nd position that need to be prioritised. Lb and RW as you say the most important areas to look at first

The only thing id say is the lad linked really reminds me of Idrissa stylistically, so perhaps its planning for that.

But clearly we have fires elsewhere on the pitch.

Been linked with 24 year old Yunus Akgun, Turkish winger. Left footed can play on the right or left, 10 goals and 6 assists from 23 league games this season in turkey and 5 goals in the europa league. Seems fast from the footage, with a powerful shot.

Very good player but what is the point in signing him? He would have to play as a secondary Full Back or Harrison would be starting over him every game under this manager...

Always wary of getting players from the Turkish league as well, not sure they play at the highest standard so stats there can be misleading. They need to be transferable to our league which we know is a challenge

We do, but the question is even if we got one, would Dyche use that player in the way we’d want him to?

Don't think it's a Dyche issue with what we have.

Options out wide - McNeil, Ndiaye, Harrison, Lindstrom. 2 effective on the left (McNeil & Ndiaye) technical but don't have any pace. 2 ineffective on the right (Harrison & Lindstrom) poor one on one and no end product.

Yes they have to defend more but it's very unbalanced and they don't carry a threat to a defender if they got behind them. We get into good areas in games, we just offer no threat when we do.

Then there's that number 10 role better than Doucoure who can get beyond the lines.

When I think of wide attacking play for me you need inverted wide players and essentially wing backs, it was more around that structure I was thinking which I know he wouldn’t go for but your right if your just going to rely on one wide players and essentially for each wing, we need more athleticism, creativity and direct players.

2 were on loans, 1 was on the basis that we didn’t have to pay anything for a year (which clubs would go for that) and the rumour was Maupey was the managers choice

Naively maybe I want to focus on the good attacking players we appear to have been linked with but didn’t have the finances to secure
If you don't have hope, than what is the point mate.

We all do the same, hope the next transfer window is the game changer

True.

Our fella's playing wide midfielders now (and Danjuma last season) are all wide forwards, grew up in 4-3-3 systems.

N'Diaye has done very well to adapt to the position, but it frustrates me how he is so deep when he gets the ball, by the time he's gassed from jinking through 4 players he's still not in a position to do damage (not his fault)
Its admirable these players work back and help the full backs. But it would be nice if there starting position wasn't 20 yards away from Pickford

It looks as if Jake O Brien was a Thelwell signing rather than one favoured by SD.
It will be interesting to see if he stays in January, is sold or leaves on loan.

We may get an indication if the manager had much influence on signings.
If his contract is not to be extended then it makes sense to buy for the next. manager and probably not let a young centre half like O Brien leave permanently without getting a fair chance.

Suggestions on twitter he is being linked with a move abroad.
