Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

He would go straight onto our bench, not the under 21s. He’s been playing first team football in the Championship which is many, many levels above U21 football. He’d be like Iroegbunam, would come in and out of the side at different times.

With a manager looking towards building a team he'd work his way into being a starter inside his first year

All depends on who the next manager is but if we look at how Roma brought in De Rossi and the new DOF with the aim of bringing in younger players then Chris Rigg makes sense.

In the summer Garner will have a year left & Iroegbunam 2. They both need their contracts extended.

I'd look at Rigg and perhaps try for Angel Gomes in Jan as he'll be able to sign a precontract ageeement.

If we have big money then go for Wharton and Rigg. Today weve also been linked with Hugo Larsson.

Obviously we need a couple more wingers so thats something to keep in mind unless we change formation.

Wharton would cost anywhere from 50-70m mate, palace don't sell cheap, they also know just how good Wharton is.

As a club we have to buy the likes of Wharton or Rigg before they get that first move upwards into the premier league, once they get it and show they can easily adapt to that level then all value has gone and they're only value for money for the really top clubs.

Mate, you do know that the amount of players who end up playing for the team they supported as a kid is miniscule
I do. But I also know it’s unusual for a first team player to have their social media covered with the colors of their local rivals. Was changed a couple of months back but it’s very widely known in the area. If he’s made available they’re going to be all over it and the only way he’s not going there is if they’re outbid by somebody much bigger. That’s not going to be us.

I fully support trying to sign this type of player. I just think the odds here are very remote

There are also an awful lot of negatives to making that move directly as well mate.

Sunderland won't sell him to the Mags mate.

Rigg will attract other offers and they simply will either decide to keep him (they should do tbh) or take another offer rather than the Newcastle one.
.having played for Sland btw a decent proportion of the Geordies wont want him despite him being a supporter.

The boyhood or family supports a club thing is way overblown also.

Very rarely do you get a Shearer type who chooses a club because of that over what would have been a better career move.

Can think actually of more boyhood blues than reds who became icons of that lot, maybe similar for us as well actually, most of our most regarded Scouse lads grew up as reds (post 70's)

Also, we tend to grow to hate our homegrown lads more than people that come in.

You look at in the last couple of decades, Campbell, Ferguson, Cahill, Richarlison

All are regarded as top of the tree in terms of loyalty, committed and share the love for the club.

Joe Royle is probably our most recent academy player who is seen as a proper club legend

All these 17 year old Brazilians are proper money laundering jobs by agents.

They very rarely actually do any good

Likes of Fabrizio Romano generate the interest and clubs fall for it, get a nice cut too.

Vitor Roque
Marcos Leonardo
Luis Guillherme
Andrey Santos
Angelo
Matheus Franca
Wesley
Deivid Washington
Pedro Lima
Gustavo Nunes

All much of a muchness
Remember Reinier Jesus

….the Joe Royle era also saw Tommy Wright, John Hurst, Brian Labone, Derek Temple, Alan Whittle, Jimmy Husband, Colin Harvey et al come through the Academy. It was a time when players were told whether they were coming or going, much different to a Rooney or Anthony Gordon coming through. Osman and Hibbert might be the last of our one-club players.
