Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

but surely
the manager situation has to be sorted for any of this?
Not really, unless you have a true "dynasty" manager like a Pep you're only recruiting for a certain manager to a limited extent. Realistically in football very few managerial positions are ever truly "sorted" in a long term sense, managers doing badly are only ever so many games away from the sack, and managers doing well are always being touted for bigger moves. Recruitment just goes on regardless.

Yeah dont think so if you think broja will be a permanent addition now, is not a chance. First the dof and manger has both questions if be here next season. Two if we even have the money to buy him sure was alot of money, has not done anything to show is worth even buying him atm. The cf postion will not get looked at until we sell one this window will be fb winger and attacking mid u less we sell a cf then maybe one comes in.

Selling DCL benefits us for PSR
Selling Broja benefits Chelsea for PSR

Their has always been an interest in a permanent deal and suspect it may have happened if not for Broja injury last year.

We should have bought him back from Wigan another idiotic decision
With hindsight I can see why we sold him and with hindsight yeah we should've bought him back but don't forget he also had a move to Milan scuppered by some heart issues, so I can see why that wasn't a risk we wanted to take. Fulham took a punt and it worked out well for him and for them, but TBH it's not a situation I really blame the club for. Sometimes players leave and go on to do really well, it happens.

I wouldn't be averse to making Broja permanent to free up the loan slot but it would have to be way below the 30m clause as the jury is very much out. If Chelsea want the sale booked this year for PSR I'd be inclined to test the water at 15m with some clauses.

Agree with dcl but wrong about broja you think what little the club have to spend will be spent on him this window. When we only wven play one striker, is not a deal the club will be making this window. Saying because chelsea will want to sell for psr is crazy already have alot of players to sell so wont just be a cheap deal for us to buy him. Can say now broja will not be bought by everton this window

How is Beto going to affect PSR ? Cost 25 million sell 10-15 million if we are very lucky ? Is it spread over time or is it another set back ?
Would likely structure it as a loan with obligation so that the loan fee goes straight on this year's books then any potential loss on his book value from a permanent sale would go on next year's.

You do know the Lindstrom deal was delayed around a week due to the player and agent having to agree the deal for the contract should we exercise our buy option.

I've never heard of that type of deal before outside of deals that were in essence financial workarounds on buys (mbappe did that moving to page on loan etc)

Why has the player agreed with the club the contract details of a permanent move whilst only on loan?
More common than you'd think. When "options" are agreed in a deal, it's not uncommon at all for a player to have to agree a future contract as part of the deal - this gives the buying club assurances that someone isn't going to come in and gazump them on personal terms of they have a successful loan spell.

Another example, albeit in a slightly different scenario, Deulofeu when he was here the 2nd time around and Barca held a buyback clause, the contract was pre-agreed - Deulofeu effectively had no say in it if Barca exercised the option because he'd already signed a deal which committed him to a contract if they did it.

I'm expecting dyche is distraught because ashley Barnes just resigned for burnely , making I'm assuming his main striker target for January unavailable

Its been happening for ages. It happened with us when we signed Yobo for example also when we loaned players out that were never signed.

For example we have the buy option for Mangala for £30mil ish as well. Were never paying £50mil for him and Lindstrom BUT perhaps we had to act like we were intending to so we could even get the loans?

Also, personal terms need to be pre-agreed as in some cases buy options may be triggered (look at Nkounkou when we loaned him to the French club) and the players can reject moves -- that works for neither club.

If we had signed Lindstrom on an obligation were tied in to sign him. Same with Mangala, Harrison and Broja. Those 4 would have been 'valued' at not far off £100mil by their clubs.

However as they are only options, not obligations if they had been world class performances for us, its worth the money (again see Nkounkou signed after loan for £2mil ish and sold to Frankfurt for £7mil+).

Pretty standard i think.

I mentioned Orcs as a little joke with @bluestevon and trolls because of the discussion.

Bluekipper was a bit like the current affairs part of the forum here.
