Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Thelwell can’t take a risk on unearthing ‘potential’ as the squad needs immediate strengthening from players not on the list of other better teams and who will not cost the earth. I am just suggesting he has been operating under conditions few others will be in the Premier League. The players whose contracts are running out are in the main not Thelwell signings, on high wages and should not be given new contracts.

I’m not saying he’s done a great job, more that it’s too early to say. His work behind the scenes on personnel and structures will take time to feed through and he’s not had a ‘normal’ transfer window with a budget and recruiting for a team not in perennial threat of relegation.

Look at the players he's managed to offload AND get decent fees for.
DoF job at an almost bankrupt club is maybe even more about cutting costs and bringin in income.

Godfrey, Holgate, Maupay, Iwobi, Dobbin, Simms, and a good few others we received fees for that frankly was almost a miracle to manage.

But Brands now gets cast as this unsung worker of magic, same brands that among with fat sans mate left us lumbered with old, huge wage faded players we couldn't move on.

How much is our net spend under Thelwell?

How much was it under Brands?

How much was it under the other blert?

What were our wages at start and finish of all three DoFs time in charge?

Criticizing Thelwell for me is very very strange, the moves he's made have arguably stopped the club going down the financial drain.

I'll bet money we sign Lindstrom btw, as think the deal was a buy arranged to get around P&S regs

Eggs mate you often quote that the power is now in the hands of players in the modern game, so given due to necessity we are having to try to reduce wages - which out of contract players would you have in the position of the DoF bowed to the players demands.

Here's whose ooc this season btw.

DCL, Doucoure, Young, Coleman, Gueye, Keane.

Given their current wages and ages, which do you think we should have kept by extending, given DCL would almost certainly have wanted a raise?

Which money we spent would you have decided to have spent elsewhere also? And on whom? And which loans for the fees paid would you have decided to not do and instead which loans would you have made?

Don’t think we'l sign him in a million years on his current showing mate. ;)

We won't have that chance, Leeds are not going to let us terminate the loan early,we have signed a season long contract, he's on £90,000 per week which we are paying in full. It's not like he is a youngster and Leeds want him playing every week for development...they really couldn't care less if we play him or not, but, they are delighted we are paying him.
90 grand p/w ffs
