Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Glad you watched him last night as that win suited us .

He averages about 1/2 at since he’s signed for forest which a a lot better than most of our strikers apart from lacina traroe. I think he’d have done a job for us although post takeover maybe our situation , style and market will change .
Absolutely bob on Harry.

He's an effective player. Not stylish , very much a Dyche type I think.

Forget it/him, he is a Saints lad through and through and Id highly doubt he moves anywhere, previously went to Chelsea for a bit, hated it and wanted to come straight back to Saints. He is a bit small time imo, still young and may mature in a few years.

Yeah i remembered about this but forgot the team.

Interestingly (nor not!) the other right winger in the England u19 squad, Amo-Ameyaw also plays for Southampton.

That and depends on the dof would not be surprised if he was here again with the amount of players we need next season
I expect Thelwell probably will stay on (unfortunately) but I highly doubt Dyche will still be here, TFG are known to use a fair bit of data and analytics so I don't see us giving extensions to the likes of Doucoure or Keane regardless, would just be sheer stupidity at their age/wages despite how many seem to want it.

…..I don’t think it’s a case of posters ‘wanting’ contract extensions for Keane and Doucoure, it’s logic suggesting it could happen. If new contracts are not offered, replacements will have to be acquired which in Doucoure’s case probably means a regular starter.

I expect, given their age, we can give the likes of Doucoure and Keane short term deals.

Whilst this wouldn't be first choice for many, the whole squad needs huge investment and we have a major issue with players out of contract at the end of the season. We simply cannot fix the issues with our squad in one or two windows so i think we have no other choice but to give some of these players new short term deals and invest in the squad over the short-medium term.

There is no logic in giving large contracts to aging players, if we do then we deserve everything that comes our way tbh. Aside from Dyche I highly doubt most modern day managers/coaches are going to want a player with a skillset as limited as Doucoure. If Thelwell is actually a proper DoF (He isn't) he would have the window planned out from the day it opens, or better still split it and buy 2/3 in January and the rest in the summer. Signing players who are proven weaknesses is a very Kenwright thing, I don't think it will be a TFG thing myself.

Comes down to the wages they want, whether they will be starting and whether there is a succession plan.

We've had much worse players than Keane and Doucoure sitting on the bench - but it would be good to have somebody ahead of them.

The position of Thelwell is an interesting one. He has done some good things in his time here.

He has reduced the net spend on players , reduced the wage bill whilst providing a squad of slightly better quality and that's impressive.

However his failure to sign a decent forward and a right back is alarming.

I don't know if TFG will retain him or have a complete clear out.

I'd probably go for a complete clear out especially if we could entice a painting of say Ragnick and Turzic to work together.

It's (quite obviously to be honest) nowhere near as easy as you're suggesting though. Going out and signing 10 or 12 new players at the level we want just isn't a realistic option in one summer, and that is very much the sort of territory we're talking about if we let all of the players people don't like go.

If you look into his background he basically a cost cutting administrator type more than a DoF, I'm not a fan tbh.

I'm in the strange place of being in agreement with much of what all 3 of you are saying.

In an ideal world with unlimited funds and no PSR constraints then of course the likes of Keane and Doucoure would be let go.

However we have so many holes to fill and do have to work to budgets and PSR that it wouldn't surprise me if one or both were retained as squad players on significantly reduced wages.

TFG / DoF have a huge recruitment project at the end of the season.

I'm sure that they are laying the groundwork now.
