Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

It's funny when I see people talk about data and analytics. How about the data that with Doucoure in the team we pick up a lot more points? It seems certain bits of data get disregarded, and how many points we get is about as important as you can get.

I'm not saying we should definitely keep him either. However since moving deeper, into his more natural position we are unbeaten and he has played well. I'm sure the club will look at it and feel the cost to sign a first team replacement, and pay them a wage represents a risk.
People will only use the data and analytics to suit their agenda.

I suspect he plays either with or ahead of both mate.

There may be posturing from them, but Harrison was one of their best players.
He might have been a few years back but he isn't anymore mate otherwise they would have tried everything to keep him and they didn't stand in his way whatsoever. He is just a very average run of the mill player, he might get ahead of Gnonto (I'm not a fan) but Ramazani is a far better player than Harrison

…..I don’t think it’s a case of posters ‘wanting’ contract extensions for Keane and Doucoure, it’s logic suggesting it could happen. If new contracts are not offered, replacements will have to be acquired which in Doucoure’s case probably means a regular starter.
Its also a case of sometimes that reliability and consistency is better to have around than a gamble on a new player.

There is a reason we bought a new midfielder most summers but after 4 games Leon Osman always found his way back in the team.

I see it at Palace now (i know they lost Olise) but Jordan Ayew was one of those players that when Palace fans did there 1 to 11's would never really put him in. But from a coaches perspective, he was great, knew his role and knew his team mates. Replacing him with new shiny players hasent worked so far.
Same with swapping Edouard for Nketiah

There are of course logistical challenges which you rightly outline.

It's also worth stating that you also lose a lot of the culture that exists when you do that. To some extent it's a good thing, but it's wrong to assume you just magically get a better culture as a result.

I happen to think pragmatic 1 year extensions, for players delivering make a lot of sense.
Makes sense for anyone that has contributed to around 15/20 appearances.
Think you have to factor age into that also, for example, we all like him at the moment, but Ashley Young's legs could fall off at any point in the next 18 months

That’s it there is no way the club is brining potentially 15 players in one or even a couple of widows, compromises will have to be made! ;)

Think expectations are getting a bit wild about what TFG may do.
Same think some players will be offered reduced terms doucoure and gana imo. Just for one more season but well not sure because of the manager if they accept thr money and tfg plans.

Think harrison is underrated is a solid prem player also still think he would be better on the left. Ramazani has not donr anything to show he is better than harrison.

….spot on.

These players are in a good negotiating position so I doubt a reduced contract will be on the table. I’d imagine they’ll be demanding at least the same with a 2 season extension. They might actually choose to leave and go elsewhere for free.

I think we can be pretty certain given our PSR position mate, that is doesn't give us scope for signing 13-14 players mate - 12 in contract and ??? over Branthwaite.

Some compromises are definitely going to have to be made and expectations adjusted, be surprised if Keane and Docoucre weren't offered new deals, prob Gana to.

I’m sorry how do you know what our PSR position is for the forthcoming year that we are half way through?

Fair enough, don't agree with that, he is just another workmanlike Dyche player. Burnley Moore Dock here we come!!

Do you think that our financial situation re PSR has improved sufficiently to allow us to spend hundreds of millions on players Mike?

I'm sure it's improved and that money will be spent but suspect that we will still be significantly constrained

There is something in between spending “hundreds of millions” and having to renew a load of dossers contracts because we can’t afford to bring anyone at all in. We’ll also likely have a lot of money coming in from Branthwaite too.

This is an utter myth and it exists on this website alone, you don't need to spend hundreds of millions on players, get out there and scout the right players, other teams do it all the time and they don't end up spending £25-30m on every single player. We need to get stuck into places like Scandinavia, Central/Eastern Europe and be prepared to look in leagues like Bundesliga 2 and others similar. We can easily rebuild and do it on a budget despite what the happy clappers on here will tell you.

Clearly ,as per Brighton, good scouting on a budget is possible but we have a huge rebuild here.

What sort of budget do you think is required SB?

We need what we’ve needed for about 3 seasons. 2 full backs (one each side) 2 pacy wingers (one right sided, one that can play either), and a forward who can fire a decent shot off from 25 yards & who scores his 1v1s. Shouldn’t cost £100m tbh

Then replace those who go the end of this season for whatever reason - sold, retired, return from loan or OOC (which should be viewed as a directorship failure).

Hard to say tbh, somewhere in the middle It all depends on whether Dyche/Thelwell both stay, Dyche will likely want expensive PL proven (Phillips) which is not the answer imo. Thelwell will get kept on as a transitional year and I'm also interested to see what TFG bring to the table themselves tbh.
