Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

….the Joe Royle era also saw Tommy Wright, John Hurst, Brian Labone, Derek Temple, Alan Whittle, Jimmy Husband, Colin Harvey et al come through the Academy. It was a time when players were told whether they were coming or going, much different to a Rooney or Anthony Gordon coming through. Osman and Hibbert might be the last of our one-club players.

I was worried Tom Davies was going to fall into that category

Fair enough, don't agree with that, he is just another workmanlike Dyche player. Burnley Moore Dock here we come!!
Not saying he would be a starter and i would be looking in jan to bring in another winger. Then in the summer i would bring in another so we have harrison only on loan wouldnt pay then ndiaye harrison then two new wingers. Is just getting the mix right for me but agree the style must 100% improve

Yeah I saw that in the BBC round up and unlike Zat I've never heard of him so looked him up.

LW or attacking midfielder whose idol was Aguero . Not tall , looksquite stocky in the photos.

I'd have thought we either wanted a RW or CF.

Zat has been watching him since his mum had her ultra sound photo taken… been a fan of his since 7 months before he was even born

…..I don’t think it’s a case of posters ‘wanting’ contract extensions for Keane and Doucoure, it’s logic suggesting it could happen. If new contracts are not offered, replacements will have to be acquired which in Doucoure’s case probably means a regular starter.

Mate you could replace what doucoure offers simply by signing whoever wins the London marathon…

We will be getting a huge fee for Branthwaite.
We might do yeah, but we'd still have to pay fees wouldn't we? I've got no idea what our PSR situation is or any of that, but realistically if we want to bring in a dozen new players of the standard that is going to get us into the top half of the league then we absolutely are going to be looking at a couple of hundred million quid. Even if we found a load of bargains from somewhere it would be remarkable if we were able to bring that many first team players in for less than £150m.

Yeah that and looking at free agents using the loan spots available. Is going to be a big job but can be done imo

Do you think that our financial situation re PSR has improved sufficiently to allow us to spend hundreds of millions on players Mike?

I'm sure it's improved and that money will be spent but suspect that we will still be significantly constrained

Its a three year cycle, year 1 we know is 90 mill approx less deductions, year 2 this year we dont know until the Spring though - we had to Dobbin/Tim Magic right up to the deadline one would assume to break even, Year 3, we are in...…

Likely the scope of investment by TFG will be centred on the PSR scope we have and also the projected revenue of BMD - its prob enough for modest investment, but there is no way we are signing 13 first players, nor is that ideal in terms of managing change - so login dictates that some compromises will be made on existing squad members - whether they want to stay or not is another thing.

The idea that we can just completely remodel the squad with a dozen new players and it'll only cost us approximately £5.2 million is a new one on me, I must admit.
That wasn't what I said and you know it, but it also doesn't have too cost hundreds of millions of pounds and no I don't expect it all done at once.

I didn't say it was what you said? I'm talking generally, not specifically to you. A couple of people said that it wouldn't cost hundreds of millions but realistically I think it would. As I said to you earlier, we're literally talking about a dozen players here, and we're talking about wanting a squad which can do better than the 12th place we would have achieved on merit last year. I just don't think that it's reasonable to think we could undertake that sort of rebuild without spending in the region of £200 million. It's theoretically doable of course, but it's highly unlikely. With the greatest of respect, there must be a reason why just going and buying a load of players en masse from Bundesliga II and the Swedish league isn't a common model for successful teams. If it was easy as you're suggesting then it's difficult to understand why nobody does it really.

My guess is £300mil over several windows.
