Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

…..I don’t think it’s a case of posters ‘wanting’ contract extensions for Keane and Doucoure, it’s logic suggesting it could happen. If new contracts are not offered, replacements will have to be acquired which in Doucoure’s case probably means a regular starter.

That’s it there is no way the club is brining potentially 15 players in one or even a couple of widows, compromises will have to be made! ;)

Think expectations are getting a bit wild about what TFG may do.

It's (quite obviously to be honest) nowhere near as easy as you're suggesting though. Going out and signing 10 or 12 new players at the level we want just isn't a realistic option in one summer, and that is very much the sort of territory we're talking about if we let all of the players people don't like go.
Forest replaced an entire squad in one window. I said bring a few in during the winter window then proper signings during the summer. We have an entire recruitment team who spend months looking at this stuff and have plenty of time to map it out, 2-3 in the winter then more in the summer, really shouldn't be that difficult for a PL club with serious aspirations. If we just want to kick the can down the road a bit more then awesome, lets offer deals to Keane and Doucoure, lets be that club that is monumentally stupid enough to pay a fee for Harrison. None of it would surprise me tbh

Nobody knows what is going to happen, think we all need to just wait and see tbh

There are of course logistical challenges which you rightly outline.

It's also worth stating that you also lose a lot of the culture that exists when you do that. To some extent it's a good thing, but it's wrong to assume you just magically get a better culture as a result.

I happen to think pragmatic 1 year extensions, for players delivering make a lot of sense.

And Forest spent an absolute fortune to nearly get relegated.

I don't think we would pay a fee for Harrison either, beyond a nominal amount. I suspect we may look to loan him again.

Do we have a recruitment team to do that though? We're in the middle of a takeover, do we want this recruitment team to replace our entire squad and then find that actually we're bringing in an entirely new recruitment team? If we wanted to define being monumentally stupid I would say that would be it. We're looking at Coleman, Young, Keane, Gueye, Mangala, Harrison, Doucoure, DCL, Lindstrom and Broja all potentially being lost from the squad for a return of ZERO. On top of that it's quite possible that we will want to get rid of a couple of others (Patterson and Beto spring to mind) and others may be looking for a move themselves (Branthwaite in particular). It just isn't that easy to replace the whole lot in one go. I love the idea of it, but in reality this isn't going to be an overnight process and yes there is likely to be an element of kicking cans down the road while we try to rebuild.

It's funny when I see people talk about data and analytics. How about the data that with Doucoure in the team we pick up a lot more points? It seems certain bits of data get disregarded, and how many points we get is about as important as you can get.

I'm not saying we should definitely keep him either. However since moving deeper, into his more natural position we are unbeaten and he has played well. I'm sure the club will look at it and feel the cost to sign a first team replacement, and pay them a wage represents a risk.

I think we can be pretty certain given our PSR position mate, that is doesn't give us scope for signing 13-14 players mate - 12 in contract and ??? over Branthwaite.

Some compromises are definitely going to have to be made and expectations adjusted, be surprised if Keane and Docoucre weren't offered new deals, prob Gana to.

We need to walk away from Harrison mate, his own club are in the Championship and they don't want him, let's just get a proper right sided version of Ndiaye, we can't keep loaning a player every season and he certainly isn't someone we should pay money for.

We will see what happens, although I was thinking more like 10/11 not 13-14, will all depend on who the manager is tbh.

Yes we do have a recruitment team and the signs are they appear to be staying. I'll wait and see what happens myself
