Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

The line up tonight will shed a bit of light on where the priorities for recruitment this January lay.

Interested to see if we play three at the back for starters.

Who starts at fullback/wingback will also be informative.

Does look like we need at least one fullback who can get forwards though with pace, a right winger and a central mid.

Of linked players so far - Walker-Peters Fellows, and the young Senegalese lad are all interesting options.

If the rumour about one ready now one for development are true then KWP is the obvious ready now, fellows likely more of a development player

Tom Cannon… wasn’t he at Everton previously.

So we released/sold him. Spent a fortune on Beto and now want to buy Cannon back cos Beto is turbo turd.

Great Business!

We basically lost a week of the window changing manager, even though it was done efficiently by our standards. Plus it’s January: everybody wants to buy, nobody wants to sell.

I’d still be disappointed with fewer than 2 signings but I wouldn’t have really expected them by halfway through the month.
Moyes has only been behind his desk 5 days and he’s been preparing his team for a match day. knowing his previous methods around transfers, he will be assessing every Thelwell recommendation with a fine tooth comb before he commits to any signings. Given our previous history, it’s more important to bring in the right players over the next 2 weeks, rather than bring in further turds to appease fans short term. I know fans patience has been exhausted over the years but will need just a little more. I know there are 6 points at risk over the next 5 days but the teams below won’t turn into prime Brazil 1970.

Ok but playing devils advocate, he’s an academy player we liked but had to sell at the time for PSR profit / to keep the lights on, now we are in a position where with clauses we can get him back for not much more than we paid.

It’s not necessarily bad business, in fact when Villa did the same with Philogene it was hailed as another bit of Monchi magic.

Not a chance everton will look to get cannnon bwck have a sell on included in his deal with leicester. Ino does not have the value of a philogene/ archer to buy back and sell on

Re Tom Cannon - wonder if there's a possibility we have a sell on clause for him and by buying him back we actually make a PSR profit on him this financial year (sell on clause instantly banked as profit, whilst only putting one year of his contract on the books). If the sell on fee is bigger than the 1st years amortisation then we'd be banking profit - if you can then instantly loan him out with an obligation to buy for the same amount, you bank another profit next financial year.

Too clever for Everton?
Possibly. I also think I remember reading that we didn’t want to sell him, but absolutely had to in order to bank vaubale money to avoiding PSR issues.

Or maybe they are following the Villa model?
