Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

That is because we are used to mediocrity under the previous ownership. Moyes talked about getting elite players,.and TFG also talked about ambition moving forward. Money is not an excuse anymore. If we are not able to convince those elite players to move to us, then for me its a sign, another one, that thelwell is out of his depth. It's time we show ambition for once in a long time.
Money is still very much an issue for us I think.
Then, do City want to sell and would Everton be attractive to the player?

And that's a problem...we are linked with players either that have past their best or young prospect that are completely unknown at this level. Thelwell list is indeed very small
Doesn't bother Brighton, they get them in, sell them on at a decent price and move up a level with their targets.

This is the sort of level of competence we need after this PSR hindered January window.

Other teams have shown creativity and imagination with psr, so I am sure we can do the same. The naming deal for the stadium will be huge. Additionally it is the work of the dof mainly to attract the top talent in the country. If he can't do it, then he should be replaced

We had no choice but to let it go to the wire. An unfortunate indictment of where we are as a club.
Why let it go to the wire, if you have a target you can afford get them in early or go with U21'S rather than a six month Ginola, Gazza
at the journeyman end of their career.

Even with the PSR restrictions, some of the transfer / loan decision making has been woefully poor, e.g. Broja.

Cashflow and profitability are two different issues though.

We could be solid from a Cashflow pov but still fail a PSR test.

The owners pumping lots of money into the club will have no positive effect on PSR.

Which is why i said earlier we have had two separate issues cashflow and PSR.

One of those is now resolved, particularly in regard to the structured deals point you raised. As i said cashflow is an enabler- it was that that scuppered the Gnonto deal in the summer not PSR.

As i also said about PSR in my second quote below........
Think we also need to be realistically ambitious though, up to the take over we had two problems PSR and cashflow. Now its only PSR. Cashflow is an enabler.

Being realistic sometimes means buying twice, Maupay, Beto, Harrison, Danjuma, Lindstrom etc.

What was the point really, we spent money for 0 impact and we still need players in those positions.

They were simply deals we could do.

I dont see why someone like McAtee isnt realistic if im honest.
We have PSR headroom, while we also have 6 weeks to create PSR headroom in the summer.

We can afford players in my opinion - not unltimately so. But i dont want us buying Jack Harrisons on four year deals.

Those days need to be over.
