Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

The way we change the narrative is keeping players like Branthwaite and buying players like McAtee.
Where has all this sudden love for McAtee come from? Is it because he scored for City when finally getting a chance in a Cup game? The reaction from Sheffield United fans is generally mixed. He hardly pulled up any trees in the championship and he’s not some teenager either.

He was very good for Sheffield United in the Championship, and is better than what we have whilst being relatively affordable and probably not demanding unaffordable wages.

No competent clubs do their priority business on deadline day. That’s not to say they don’t sometimes bring in a squad filler or a loan. We are a shambolically run football club, that’s why we are always left scrambling around trying to get multiple players in on deadline day.
What you really mean is no wealthy club does it 's business on deadline day.

It depends on the player's view. He could sign for Bournemouth or Brighton, giving him a chance of finishing in the Conference league places and playing in a plastic stadium in front of happy clappers, or ye could sign for one of England's great clubs, 9 times winners of the league, who are currently struggling but have new ownership and who are moving to an amazing new 53,000 seat stadium with ambitions of rejoining the elite. It's up to him.

Get a chance to play for the team that still uses his relatives quote to this day almost like a club motto.

It's the fairytale type story though, sixty years in the grand nephew of one of the best we ever had who propelled us back to the top comes in to try to emulate that feat.

Not happening though sadly as footy fairytales got killed by sky

When talking about transfer targets we need to be realistic.

McAtee is not realistic.

Think we also need to be realistically ambitious though, up to the take over we had two problems PSR and cashflow. Now its only PSR. Cashflow is an enabler.

Being realistic sometimes means buying twice, Maupay, Beto, Harrison, Danjuma, Lindstrom etc.

What was the point really, we spent money for 0 impact and we still need players in those positions.

They were simply deals we could do.

I dont see why someone like McAtee isnt realistic if im honest.

Money talks. And tbe player would have to want to come here. And sadly, that isn't an exciting proposition currently.

Think the club has done a number on us mate, lets dare to dream again, every thing we do now has to be held to different standard, we have cashflow, we have a new corporate structure, we have a competent manager.

We are in recovery mode.

I dont see why someone like McAtee or KDH wouldn't want to come here if im honest.

To have the chance to be a clutch player in a PL team on an upward trajectory with status is nothing to be sniffed - both players need that foundation at this stage in their careers. KDH was in the championship 12 months ago and people would be lying if they said McAtee was outstanding last year for Sheff Utd, he was alright like.

Lets not talk ourselves down.

This is new Everton.

We signed most of these named in structured deals which avoided paying money immediately and possibly not at all and also they were signed with PSR as a major issue.

If we had money to spend and no PSR issues I don't honestly think we would have signed any of those named

Even now we all know players we should buy but we also know we can't afford them.

Ideally we would not be active now at all in the market but our circumstances are that we need players to help avoid relegation.
