Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Morientes was a flop and was at the end of his career. Johnson had one good season at Palace but lots of other strikers were also one season wonders. No big clubs were in for him and he was never in England contention. He was even at the Crouch/Defoe level let alone being top class. You really are clueless.

Read up on your football knowledge please.

For you young bucks maybe

European club soccer on the original Mega Drive gave us many a night not sleeping playing til 4 or 5 in the morn at sleepovers! What a game
SWOS is the greatest football game of all time. SWOS 96/97 was the zenith, with one of the best football management games ever created. It still holds up today.

Johnson was decent enough. You have to remember that one season where he had about ten pens not given to him. He was also the penalty taker. I remember we wrote to the f.an and they replied saying something like ‘you’re right, they all should have been pens’.

Defoe was top quality. Crouch was ok. He scored some good goals but let’s have it right he was also 100foot tall.

But the point is we pretty much got what we paid for with AJ a decent premier league striker. That was all we could afford. We couldn’t even afford a Crouch/Defoe level player who were next level down from the top 4. We had the Yak play at that level for a year before his injury and we were a joy to watch.

Agree to an extent but removing the likes of Chelsea and their Russian billions we were paying top market rates. So the idea moyes was working on a shoestring just isn't true.
This is just pure unfiltered BS. Utd had already paid £20m for Van Nistelrooy, £13m for Saha and £30m for Rooney. Moyes had no money to spend on fees and even less on wages.

Young, athletic rising star with an eye for goal….Louie Barry back at Villa after very successful spell at Stockport. Celtic and a few foreign clubs showed interest, not sure if anything materialised.

I think we need to look out of the box and search the so called lesser league to find something different.

Belgium League have a top goalscorer in Tolo Arokodare at Genk - 23apps/14 goals/6 assists.

Turned 24 and experienced Europa League and Champions League qualifiers plus links with Monaco and Fulham but yet to be capped by Nigeria.

Huge talent in Holland is Sam Steijn. 23 year old attacking midfielder at Twenty with 18 goals in 28 apps in all comps.

Fast, strong and plenty of creativity who could move easily into Doucoure's role tomorrow.

Evann Guessand is another one to look out for in France. 23 years old who is linked to West Ham and Spurs.

Strong and fast he would offer plenty for us upfront with his flexibility, playing left wing or forward.

They were for us, they were club records, but comparative to the market and the bigger spenders they were not
You’re 100% right of course. Utd were spending £30m on a centre back at the time and we’re supposed to believe that £8.5m on AJ and £6m on Beattie were top of the market signings. Blackburn spent more on Kevin effin Davies. 😂

Sometimes players have to take responsibility for themselves.
You can't blame Moyes because James Beattie didn't seem to be up for the fight.
Isn't that what Moyes was all about though: due diligence?

We can talk all day abut the MFs and defenders he scouted and analysed and bought for reasonable prices, but he couldn't do the same with strikers, that's why he wasted a lot of cash on forwards who were established but didn't bring any young / overlooked players in the lower divisions in to play up front.
