Exactly, no big clubs were in for him. We needed a champions league level striker (like Rom) and we would have finished top 4 easily under Moyes. But we had to take punts on average players. Even a Defoe level striker would have improved us. But we never had the cash. None of the top 4 had nah interest in Andy Johnson even as a back up. Don't get me started on Beattie.
The top 4 had:
Chelsea - Drogba, Lampard, Robben, Crespo, Joe Cole
Man Utd - Ronaldo, Rooney, RVN, Saha
Liverpool - Ciise, Crouch, Morientes, Fowler, Gerrard.
Arsenal - Henry, Pires, Reyes, Van Persie, Bergkamp, Adebayor.
Tottenham - Robbie Keane, Midi and Defoe
Blackburn - Bellamy, Dickov, Kuqi.
Newcastle - Shearer, Owen, Ameobi, Luque, Chopra.
None of the top 4 needed Johnson. Arguably, Liverpool signing Morientes rather than Johnson was a mistake. But Johnson would've improved any of those 5-7. Newcastle specifically buying Luque for £9m, as a Champions league striker, totally backfired.
