Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Thelwell will know his budget and what he can and can't do,Why would TFG need to get involved?

You think TFG put the money into the club that they have, and then trust their whole asset to Thelwell, a DOF who could be gone in a few months?

I'd be surprised.

Particularly given how hands on they've been with transfers at Roma. You know, like physically going to get the players themselves.

Do you think they let Thelwell make the call on Dyche too then? After all, he managed the club, why would TFG need to get involved?

I'm fine with that, not sure what it is, but i feel like its less urgent to get players in now Moyes is in charge.
Maybe its knowing that he doesn't make rash decisions if he's in charge of recruitment.

If we had capitulated to Tottenham and if Veltman hadn't gotten handsy, I think you'd feel differently. The urgency has never been greater with DCL and Mangala injured.

Moyes likes too pick his own players, he will have to ok them first.

That's every manager.

But ultimately, no player should come in without DOF approval.

I suspect thats where Moyes will end up - a DOF type role.

Players do come in without managers knowing who they are, or whether they wanted them or not - it has here under Ancelotti. And it's happened elsewhere, like Barkley at Chelsea.

Players don't come in without DOF approval.

We have but we beat a spurs team in freefall that just lost at home, to Leicester and had one shot, a penalty, against Brighton with about 30% possession.

I am happy with the wins obvioulsy but people are getting far too ahead of ourselves here.
The results are better but the football is still total crap. In the premier league you play only once a season against a Oliver Hardy and Stan Laurel defense. That was against Spurs , the rest of the season will be much tougher!

Brighton was a step backwards, though we lost our striker in the first third of the match. I thought the football was better against Villa and Tottenham.

The owners will have a clear strategy, which may or may not align with the previous strategy which Thelwell with have agreed with Moshiri.

The manager will also have a say in that strategy, but ultimately it's agreed between owners, DOF and board.

Part of that strategy will be type, profile, value, age of players we want. That should be agreed by DOF and the manager - if they agree, great, but if not, you end up with a Dyche/O'Brien scenario.

Id like to think given the club position and the change of manager in the transfer window, the owners, DOF and manager have all sat down, had a sensible conversation about money available, 1st team needs, who might fill those needs and then agreed a set of targets which they are working through.

It may be that's changed at times through the window (with injuries etc), but I suspect the need for a striker and CM/AM hasn't changed, despite the injuries to Mangala and DCL.
