Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

rather listen to the dof who's identified good European talents in the past rather than buy the likes of Longstaff and Ings

It is difficult. The argument is that if you're buying for the future then that isn't much good for the here and now. It depends on the view taken of how acute our situation is.

We have much catching up to do, so we should be active in every window to the extent we can. The issue is when deals collapse on deadline day and you have no Plan B, or Plan B player/Club/Agent isn't keen on being Plan B in the first place, or they've gone elsewhere by the time you want them.

Outside the elite clubs and those with more finances/appeal than us, then it's a waiting game. A club may need to replace a player, or may need more cash than is offered, and naturally it falls to the last few days before clubs become willing sellers. Everybody watches everyone else wait.

It's not an excuse though - this is the market and they know what we need.

End of the day if there is a disagreement about long- term v short-term investment then it should be for the ownership to step in and guide how their money is spent.

Ultimately it’s for them to say whether they want it invested in young players for the longer term or in experienced players for immediate survival. Both arguments have some merit to them in our situation but they could at least provide guidance to settle things and get moving.
