Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

The “Premier League experience” thing is surely lazy nonsense from these clueless self-appointed social media ITK biffs. There’s been nothing to suggest Moyes is obsessed with Premier League experience in his career, he’s always brought in players from the lower leagues as well as overseas and put them straight into the team. Yobo, Li Tie, Pienaar, Arteta, Mirallas, McFadden, Bilyaletdinov, Jelavic, Heitinga, Valente, Drenthe, Coleman, Fellaini, Donovan, Naismith all came from outside of English football and went straight into the first team. That’s not including the handful of flops that he spent money on like Van der Meyde and Kroldrup. At West Ham he also brought in loads of overseas players, it’s lazy rubbish.
No, there are some managers that are obsessed with PL experience, Moyes isn’t one of them.

What these ITKs have been saying is that Moyes wants players for the now, which he considers the British leagues - PL, Championship, SPL.

That's his perogative, but the issue is that this approach (especially with no domestic loan slots available) severely limits our options and, probably, quality in a January window.

Then Young can play in that position. We currently have just Beto available as a striker . I just can't understand how you think not signing a striker isn't a priority
... plus the fact that two of our current strikers are leaving in the summer anyway - and are both injured right now, one won't ever play for us again the other we don't yet know.

A striker NOW is an absolute must.

Has he said this? What are his reasons for it if so? Why is a player from the SPL considered “for the now”?

You missed out Cahill and Lescott from the list of players who'd never played premier league footy mate, Lescott missed the entirety of the season after he got promoted with Watford and was sold the season they went down and Cahill never even got there with Millwall.

He signed Tomas Soucek for the now during a relegation battle from the Czech league. He also used to sign guys from the Major League in the U.S., so I'm not sure how much sense it makes that he wouldn't consider overseas players. Who can forget Moyes' famous Chinese takeaways?!

That's what the ITKs have said. It chimes with what he was saying about wanting players ready to come straight in etc.

You can choose to believe it or not, but that's what they've said. They’re not unfairly maligning Moyes. They are talking about the difficulties this window.

Yeah I was specifically on about players from overseas leagues there but also all of the Championship players he’s brought in over the years can count.

But why would he consider a player from the SPL ready to come straight in? I don’t understand. I haven’t heard him say this, I want to know who has said it and where they’ve got it from? Until I’ve heard or seen some evidence then yeah, I will choose not to believe it.

If you're asking my personal opinion, and I know absolutely nothing about what’s going on, I suspect we will see a mix of foreign and domestic based players come in. But I do believe that Moyes' preference for this window would be domestic.

Jagielka had most of his career outside of the PL too, and pretty sure Baines was from the championship.

Moyes signed Denis Stracqualursi from the Mexican league. Not sure why there's this hyper fixation on how we're obsessed with only getting Prem experienced players now (even if that was the case pre-Moyes).

There's overexposure to random talents across Europe in the media now and Everton "missing out on them" (95% of which we were never in for). Absolutely fair enough to criticise previous strategy but none of us have a clue who they're going for or the conditions for any deals.

Get mad if/when we mess it up, no point getting wound up beforehand.
