Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

I'll try to simplify it for you.

It's called PSR and amortisation.

And yes the way it works is entirely bs, but it's a financial way of measuring income and expenditure which credits any incoming guaranteed payment as basically income from the moment the agreement is reached no matter the payment structure, and any outgoing payment as money spread over the length of agreement (players contractual length) no matter when the money is actually paid.

It's also in large part how Moshiri could blow through so much money early on as incomings outweighed outgoings using this system of measurement until they no longer could and then the house of cards fell down.
I know how PSR works.

I want to know how selling Beto for 18m generates 50m.

This is an example of why most clubs leave things late in the January window. Moving parts.

Unless you can throw money at targets who are going to agitate for a move to a club - Man City for example, every club needs to make sure that if they are buying or selling, that they have either space or a replacement lined up.

If we have an offer on the table from Torino for Beto, I'm sure it's been provisionally accepted but is contingent on our signing a replacement. Whoever we have targeted will be no different - "yes, we'll sell you X if we can get either A,B or C to cover." And the cycle moves to the next club(s) down the line...and so on.
Reckon it'll be Igamane in, Beto out.

We literally changed manager and owners in the past 3 weeks!

Our director of football only has months left on his contract, and I'm guessing the owners aren't sure on his patchy record.

Do you let the man with 6 months on his contract control the ship, or go for the choices of the guy with 2 & half years on his contract?
Think they'd have plenty of faith in the bloke who has ensured that they had a Premier League club available to buy. What Thelwell has done in navigating PSR and absent ownership needs applauding. Given the constraints he's worked under in terms of player acquisition, he's done well too. No club has a 100% strike rate on incoming players, few clubs with such a limited budget and ability to move as needed have been as successful in the market.

The fact we have a threadbare squad of cast-offs, loans and free transfers is on Moshiri and his past decisions; not on Thelwell.

If Moyes doesn’t think Beto is good enough, which he isn’t, why keep him?

Sell and get in one or two that he believes can improve the squad.

He cannot hold the ball up and it puts us under so much pressure.

You keep banging on about how we have 4 strikers . 3 are out injured and don't look to be returning any time soon. Beto doesn't look like he suits the Premier League and even if he does get a run in the team then he can't be expected to play 90 minutes in every game until the end of the season. Doucoure up front? You can't be serious, he's a liability in his favoured position as it is.

I'm interested to know which positions you feel that should be strengthened? We absolutely could do with several positions but we can't do that until the summer. For me a Striker is the number 1 priority then it's a winger or someone who can play Doucoure's role . We need goals and someone who can assist .
Well i look at left back and using your reasoning, Mykolenko isn't up to standard & Ashley Young is older than me. We need a left back

Our 2 right wingers are both loans, one is Jack Harrison, we need a right winger

We have had limited time to approach centre forwards as this 'emergency' has only just emerged

I'd take a guess we would have looked at centre forwards for the summer, those options may have changed now because of 1)Moyes coming in, 2) Thelwell possibly not being here
You want us to bring in a 5th striker on the books leading into the summer for an already bloated area of the squad.

Moyes has constantly over his career 'got by' without having that Centre forward, even at West Ham, Antonio kept his spot as a nuisance and less of a goalscorer.

We have invested heavily in Beto & Chermiti, do you think we will jeopardize that to cover a few weeks of injurys?
