If Branthwaite is valued at £70m, I really don't see anyone paying that in Jan. Very few big deals happen in Jan compared to the summer. He doesn't look near the level he was last season (that may be down to injury/recovery), and we are apparently not under any pressure to sell in Jan. He'll be here until the summer then go.
Subject to going in Jan, it is not 'good business' to waste £12-17m (whatever it was) on an unnecessary 4th choice CB who looks like he's going to spend his first season warming the bench every week. If JB goes next summer, we could have spent that money on other positions in the team that did need attention and just got a CB in the next summer window. Just smacks of another random buy whilst our priority positions get ignored for yet another year.

I think our situation is so perilous that PSR concerns need to take a back seat. Staying up is far more important than being PSR compliant. TFG would have until July to sort out any PSR concerns anyway. So a new stadium sponsor and/or an inflated swap deal with a Roma player (like the Dobbin deal) would see us right.

Tbf, if they can get fit, can Broja/Chermiti be worse options than what we currently have available? If budgets are still tight, that's the hardest/most expensive area to buy for in any case.
I think Broja could actually be ok for us, but unsure how long he can go without sustaining an injury. Cermitti (imo) I don't think is quite ready, and I think Dom will be gone come Jan

Well, that's all fair. And Dom - while I'm not sure that he won't hang on for the free-agent payday in the summer - has mentally/spiritually checked-out in any case. Don't get me wrong, I'd love TFG to waltz into town and sign us up the new Lukaku, but absent that I think limited cash might be better spent elsewhere.
We need so many players and in so many positions it's difficult to know where to start.
1. Assuming that neither Broja or Chermiti hit the ground running prior to January we need a striker - a proper one who can actually score.
2. Fast right wing
3. 2 full backs.
Thats the absolute minimum we need to make us a functioning team .
We might get away without the full backs of we changed to 3/5/2
