Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Nah I've said this before but that team finished 7th the season before and 8th the season after. It just wasn't a side that was going to go down. Obviously nothing's impossible, but realistically we just had a run of poor form that put us in a bad position which we very quickly got out of. It's not really comparable to this side which has, to some extent, been battling relegation for 4 consecutive seasons. To put it into perspective, we'd already won more home games at the point Allardyce took over in November than we have so far this season, and it's February tomorrow.

Regardless of the difference in opinion on the trajectory of that team, the point is we didn’t gamble then, we shouldn’t now, this team needs signings.

Goes without saying, but "i'd rather spend nothing than spend bad" is a nonsense, apologist shout. Obviously, but now is not comparable to the January in which we signed Tosun.

The manager has said he needs players, the club need to make it happen.

This team isn't difficult to improve. In quality, and depth.

It's not a big ask for recruitment to bring in a couple of players to safeguard the future of the club, and address the public concerns the manager has spoken of.

The time has gone for continually making excuses.

We're 16th, haven't spent a bean (net) 4 years.

Spend.
Agreed, also don't discount the feeling in the dressing room of seeing new players arrive especially talented ones. That alone adds value to doing so.

People will likely say I'm dreaming about getting 150m spend over 18 months being the minimum needed, but I'm dead serious - I'd actually say 200m would be closer to were we are at now.

The squad literally is absolutely bare bones now and by summer multiply that up big time.

Pickford, Mykolenko, Branthwaite, O'Brien, Patterson, Tarkowski, Garner, Irongebuem, McNeil, Ndiaye, Beto, Chermiti, Armstrong.

That's a total of 13 players we have. Sounds very very bad and if you analyse it it's even more catastrophic.

Tim has played (from memory) roughly 6 games for us and then missed half a season injured. He has zero track record at this level so just what we saw so far - very very unproven.
Chermiti hasn't played more than a few hundred minutes of league football for us and never scored a goal, and is gonna end up missing the entire season or near enough injured.
Armstrong has played a few minutes and looks a prospect, but nothing so far says he's gonna be ready yet.
McNeil is gonna have surgery on a knee, so how he recovers unknown.
O'Brien looks good but he's played a couple of games for us - can't really judge yet.
Garner has been injured for half a season
Manager doesn't trust Beto and we want rid of him clearly.
Tarkowski is 33 soon and there's signs he may be on the slide now
Patterson - is seeing a CB playing RB ahead of him and a attacking mid preferred at wing back.

So of the 13 players we have there's doubts - minor to really major ones on 9 of those players

Only players without worries are Pickford, Mykolenko, Branthwaite and Ndiaye.

Of those we will see a lot of interest again this summer in Jarrod and another is Mykolenko who most do not regard as being good enough anyways...

So yeah let's go with what we have it's fine ...

Apart from Parish literally saying there was no reason not to make the deal permanent when he arrived on loan with an option rumoured to be 20 mill, and then also saying his story was cut short and it was a shame when he got injured and had to come back. There’s also reports that Palace were still interested even after his injury and were monitoring his recovery.

But yeah apart from that no indication at all they were interested.

“Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has said that he sees no reason why the Eagles cannot sign Cenk Tosun on a permanent deal this summer, if his loan spell goes well.”

Narrator: his loan spell wasn’t going well.

I evidence those will see a lot of interest again this dumber in Jarrod and another is Mykolenko who most do not regard as being good enough anyways...

That spend you think we need is still less than what Bournemouth, Brighton, Villa, Forest and co have spent the last few years...

I see it from both sides, while we need depth we don't need a bang average player on 100K a week, although right now a bang Average striker would improve us. But transfer fee and salary need to reflect the averageness.
Players and teams know how desperate we are and will take advantage, they also we are pretty much the second worst team in the league, after United, for transfers over the last ten years.

I agree we need signings, but I think it's important to make the distinction between the 2 seasons because January 18 can easily be used as evidence that we shouldn't buy now if you try to conflate the 2. That January I'd say we did gamble, because we spent a load of money on a couple of players when we really didn't need to. We were 10th throughout January, we weren't going down, and we probably didn't need to go and spend £50m when we knew we were going to change managers at the end of the season. It wasn't a particularly sensible thing to do. This season is different, the last 2 games have given us a little bit of breathing space but we're still very much in the relegation mix, have injury problems, and have about 10 players contracted past the end of the season. It's a very different scenario, and there's much more reason to bring players in.

Indeed mate, if I said the actual figure I truly believe this squad needs to be a team battling around the EL places it would be scary. The numbers I'm giving are if we get recruitment very correct AND it's on players who develop AND we utilize loans very effectively.

Getting a bit worried now although I did think it would be deadline day when we did most of our business. I had hoped we'd have signed someone by now.

It will be interesting to see what Moyes says in today's press conference. I hope the Club are in negotiations and are confident of finalising deals, but if they can't get the targets they want and then panic buy on deadline day then even with new owners nothing has changed

Think we might get the first cautionary, negative Moyes comments in relation to transfers. It will be revised from we aiming for . . . to: we'll keep looking but don’t get your hopes up.

Why would the player be bang average and on 100k a week?

It was only 2 games ago, we were 1 weekends result of being in the relegation spots. 42% of the season still to play.

@Neiler, like me, has spent months on here saying our lack of options/attack dictates relegation scrap.

We've won 2 games and now it's "actually, maybe kick the can until the summer..."

Heads need to come out of arses, and we need to stop making excuses. The summer on here was the same - the squad needs investment. Now. And in the summer.

Look at it;
Cos we have form for paying bang average players ridiculous money

This is why the rebuild needs to start now! This month and not loans.

Could you trust this club to get 10 players signed in the summer? When loans go back and contracts expire.

This summer will be the biggest challenge weve faced, especially if we have an incompetent DoF who struggles to get deals over the line and is slow at opening his laptop.
