Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

With every day passing, our inability to get things done with regards to recruitment is still very much there despite new ownership and money (supposedly). We are going to literally the last days of the window with everything to do still. Smells badly of panic signings or we tried everything but couldn't get anybody so we're going with what we have. Zero accountability...people should get fired comes the end of the window if they are unable to perform the tasks they are meant to do.
We're still in the same situation where we can't actually buy anyone we want, we have to look at players who are at the right price. But at least the viewing figures will be good when our relegation battle lasts longer than it needs to...

This isnt an excuse for apparent inactivity/woeful planning, but also not talked about enough. Having potentially season defining games days before the window shuts is, at best, unhelpful.
Isn't this a big reason clubs now implement a DoF role?

Let's the coach concentrate on the football side of things.

If I ask you to spend 30 quid on a meal, and you then find out you are getting 6 nuggets from KFC, would you be happy that you spent the money? Especially if it now means you can't afford to eat tomorrow.

Spending badly, or without a clear strategy, is what got us into the current situation.

Why is the default to be "spending badly"

It's a nonsense, apologetic defence.

Sign players who improve the team or heaven forbid, allow some depth.

That isn't asking much.

And your last sentence isn't accurate, as much as the Sky Sports type agenda would love to have you believe. The stadium, previous board and Russia's war got us into the current situation. Sure, one window under Koeman we spent a bit of money. Like Fulham, Bournemouth and West Ham have since. And nowhere near the amounts Nottingham or Villa have.

Teams spend money, teams invest money into the playing squad - we haven't. The only team to not have done the last 4 years.

Our squad value for fees, including players we have on loan who we didnt actually spend is 19th from 20th. I think Ipswich actually went above us this window. [Edit. They haven't. Our squad cost is 19th in the league, above only Ipswich.]
