Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Why is the default to be "spending badly"

It's a nonsense, apologetic defence.

Sign players who improve the team or heaven forbid, allow some depth.

That isn't asking much.

And your last sentence isn't accurate, as much as the Sky Sports type agenda would love to have you believe. The stadium, previous board and Russia's war got us into the current situation. Sure, one window under Koeman we spent a bit of money. Like Fulham, Bournemouth and West Ham have since. And nowhere near the amounts Nottingham or Villa have.

Teams spend money, teams invest money into the playing squad - we haven't.

Our squad value for fees, including players we have on loan who we didnt actually spend is 19th. I think Ipswich actually went above us this window.
I think the first 5 years under moshiri, we sold stones, lukaku, Barkley and a few others and I think our debt on spending was like 150/200mil . Basically 30/40mil a season, I can’t be bothered to check but it wasn’t a fortune
This all started
when talkSPORT would go on about this £500milion we’d spent and it just snowballed and uneducated fans of other clubs jumped on the bandwagon. That figure some how went to 700mil overnight and we hadn’t even bought anyone. Probably a few of the [Poor language removed] fans on social media spinning the narrative.

The media have always had an issue with Everton and put it down to our neighbours being the biggest media darlings on the planet, we finished 7th or 8th under silva and yet talkSPORT presenters would say we should be top 4 with the money spent 🤣🤣🤣 silva had basically failed, funny how you don’t hear that about Villa or Newcastle

Who is saying it will just be one.
Well it’s the case Moyes wants prem ready, which narrows it down a bit, no prem loans available unless broja( apparently we’re in discussions with Chelsea to send him back) goes back
But even if we get 2 the squad is still weaker after last weeks injuries

Again its not an absolute argument, im not saying not to bring players in, I'm saying id rather do nothing then bring in players that do nothing beyond a 4 month shelf life and don't improve us long term.

Has our situation changed after two wins on the bounce - i think undoubtedly it has. we're 9 points above the relegation zone ahead of Ipswich and Wolves who have won three and four games all season and we have a game in hand.

I feel as if some of the pressure is off - certainly enough to be discerning on who bring in to the club at this point.

7 points clear.

If we lost the last 2, you still don't sign players who don't improve us long term.

Again, why is the default that we'd sign terrible players?

The crux of it is this team needs players now, as much as it ever has.

You say the last 2 games has undoubtedly changed our situation - a squad already on it's arse, has lost two first team players in Calvert-Lewin and Mangala in that time

Sure, we could be 10 points clear tomorrow, or 4 points with 40% of the season to go.

A team that's been in a relegation scrap for 3 successive years is in one until it's not.

We're still in the same situation where we can't actually buy anyone we want, we have to look at players who are at the right price. But at least the viewing figures will be good when our relegation battle lasts longer than it needs to...
Players are available at the price we supposedly can afford based on psr. We are not just capable to decide on targets, then when decide on targets we are just not capable of closing the deal. We must be the worst negotiators in the entire pl. It's a disgrace really, and the fact that TFG has been around for a few weeks now and also probably very much aware of the legacy issues as part of due diligence, but yet nothing its done about it, it's very concerning.

With a tough cup game followed by the derby right after.

How's the feeling after that gonna be if we failed to strengthen....

Moyes this afternoon: "Wor working flat out; but you know this has been a slow market for every club. It's a tough ask to buy quality for value - especially in January. We're hopeful wor can bring a face in mebees to add a wee bit of back up to the first team squad".

You know it.
