Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

With every day passing, our inability to get things done with regards to recruitment is still very much there despite new ownership and money (supposedly). We are going to literally the last days of the window with everything to do still. Smells badly of panic signings or we tried everything but couldn't get anybody so we're going with what we have. Zero accountability...people should get fired comes the end of the window if they are unable to perform the tasks they are meant to do.

This is why the rebuild needs to start now! This month and not loans.

Could you trust this club to get 10 players signed in the summer? When loans go back and contracts expire.

This summer will be the biggest challenge weve faced, especially if we have an incompetent DoF who struggles to get deals over the line and is slow at opening his laptop.

We should have been bringing in 3-4 this window and spending around 80-90m mate, in the summer bringing in another 5-6 and another 100-120m

What annoys me in the January window is while we are dilly dallying about their is still games to be played and won.

I dont buy the its January most clubs do it, someone with pace a winger/striker what weve known weve needed for months or even years should be lined up for the first week of the window opening.

Why would the player be bang average and on 100k a week?

It was only 2 games ago, we were 1 weekends result of being in the relegation spots. 42% of the season still to play.

@Neiler, like me, has spent months on here saying our lack of options/attack dictates relegation scrap.

We've won 2 games and now it's "actually, maybe kick the can until the summer..."

Heads need to come out of arses, and we need to stop making excuses. The summer on here was the same - the squad needs investment. Now. And in the summer.

Look at it;

Again its not an absolute argument, im not saying not to bring players in, I'm saying id rather do nothing then bring in players that do nothing beyond a 4 month shelf life and don't improve us long term.

Has our situation changed after two wins on the bounce - i think undoubtedly it has. we're 9 points above the relegation zone ahead of Ipswich and Wolves who have won three and four games all season and we have a game in hand.

I feel as if some of the pressure is off - certainly enough to be discerning on who bring in to the club at this point.

Tbf though we have won our last two…I think that’s probably made it a bit easier to take our time and not panic too much.

Saying that - it’s a recurring theme with us. Recruitment has been awful for years. The summer has to be the time it changes for the better with the massive overhaul we have to do.

It's probably all the haggling we have to do that delays it
Top clubs just get their moves done early which helps them stay at the top
It's annoying

They've only been in a few months. Still getting people in for various roles, including recruitment if the rumours about the Brighton bloke are to be believed. I'd start judging them this time next year if things are still the same.

I also think that a few of our targets may be at clubs who did not know before the last few days whether they were going to be in European competitions or not for the the rest of the season, before agreeing to cash in on their players.

Agreed
We've had enough poor desperation signings to last a generation
If we need to I'd plough on to the full reset in the summer if we can't get the right players in.
Our next game will need to be won without a new signing anyway and it could be the most important game left to play

Goes without saying, but "i'd rather spend nothing than spend bad" is a nonsense, apologist shout. Obviously, but now is not comparable to the January in which we signed Tosun.

The manager has said he needs players, the club need to make it happen.

This team isn't difficult to improve. In quality, and depth.

It's not a big ask for recruitment to bring in a couple of players to safeguard the future of the club, and address the public concerns the manager has spoken of.

The time has gone for continually making excuses.

We're 16th, haven't spent a bean (net) 4 years.

Spend.
If I ask you to spend 30 quid on a meal, and you then find out you are getting 6 nuggets from KFC, would you be happy that you spent the money? Especially if it now means you can't afford to eat tomorrow.

Spending badly, or without a clear strategy, is what got us into the current situation.

Id be happy with 3, one a striker on a permanent and other two with an option to buy being a mid / winger. I would like more but feel we can get the fb postion sorted in the summer and get a better deal then for both sides lb and rb.

This isnt an excuse for apparent inactivity/woeful planning, but also not talked about enough. Having potentially season defining games days before the window shuts is, at best, unhelpful.

I'm willing to give them the benefit of the boubt. Moyes can in, he may have said not the the planned targets. Then we lose two strikers and a midfielder more or less at once. I suspect our targets have changed instantly to a main striker( the hardest position to fil). Also no one else has really bought anyone yet. I agree squeeky bum time, but it will take a couple of big moves to kick start the market.
