Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

I understand and accept that a club in our position is going to be doing deals late, if at all due to having to pinch pennies and wait for other dominoes to fall, etc. What I don't quite get is comments like "it may not be the players we'd like to have brought in."

The club is under ownership that will have very recently undertaken extensive due diligence on its finances. The PL have signed off on the fact we haven't breached PSR, so there should be no further question marks over the numbers reported internally. How, then, have we not cut our cloth accordingly from day 1 of the manager and DoF working together? How have we been able to waste time on targets that, if they are out of our price range now, will have been out of it weeks ago also?

Or did I just misunderstand the comment?

Don't think I've ever heard a manager hint at the possibility of signings he doesn't want, at least before they are signed.

This must happen at every club between having to "settle" and work down the list of options, and disagreements with DOFs etc as to who comes in, but you keep that in-house.

If he really didn't want whomever might be lined up, then I'd rather they did nothing but to me it seems like just another case of getting in there with the excuses, and setting the narrative.

You do the best you can with the resources available, they've said there are constraints but not said no money. The same goes for every window, otherwise you just do nothing and watch your rivals spend.

Club hasn't helped itself signing two absolute crabs on loans we can't get out of with Harrison and Broja. Rather we just didn't spend the money if the players he wants are unobtainable.

Leicester went in to court and laughed in their faces. Nobody is paying attention to the rules. Newcastle sold Almiron because he’s an absolute bum.

OK.

I mean it's right here, but I know it doesn't fir your agenda.

Eddie Howe said earlier that they had to sell Almiron because of PSR and they won't be signing anyone because of it

Do you think he's not being back by Newcastle's owners?
I think the difference is that they haven't really sold many players in the current PSR cycle.

We have made money on transfers never mind overspending.

I don't really understand how Moyes has gone from very confident last week, to much less confident in 7 days. Especially with the squad even more stretched with 2 long term injuries.

I don't get it to be honest

Simplistic way at looking at this we are the lowest net spenders in the Prem League over the last 5 years.

We have a revenue only beaten max by 10 clubs max.

We have shifted a lot of players on big contracts out of the club over the last 2/3 years such as Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes.

How is PSR so much of an issue for us compared to everyone else.....

Of course. Crap squad player that doesn’t get near a starting spot, someone offers a ludicrous fee that’s treble what he’s worth and he was just desperate to keep him. Good job managers swear an oath on the bible to tell nothing but the truth before every press conference.
