Everton January transfer window 2021

I keep reading we have poor squad depth.

We don't, we have numerous players for every position.

Quality-wise outside the first 11 we stink, but depth-wise, we have lots of bodies.

I mean we currently have 8? injured players.
This is so true. The squad is still massive, it’s just the quality drops off quite a bit.
This is a good window to shift those sort of players.
Anyway, whilst it might make sense to upgrade Tosun and Bernard, I don't know if the players are available to improve on them. Milik is an injury crisis that I would steer clear of. It might be possible to get Sarr, but it would take big money.
I suppose it depends what our budget is.
Im also guessing we would have to move some on to make space for wages.

I think another Richarlinson clone would be great. Even if they were a bit younger and not as good. Maybe Milik or King can cover that.

Midfielder would be good too. Again it can be short term, someone like Khedira to get us to the end of the season (or a loan) and we can ease Gbamin back in.

I'd also love someone like Isco or another "class" option too if they became avaiable.

Another Richarlison type is Orsolini at Bologna...

Would everyone accept not making any decent additions in January? Because I dont believe that. I reckon there will be fume if we get to the end of January and not making a single signing, especially if results tail off again and we drop down the league. Dont forget only 4 points of 9th with a few teams having games on hand over us.
I think most would accept no signings over a bad signing.
We have had this debate every year under Brands and history suggests he doesn’t make big signings in January.
I know that can change, but Ancelotti has also said he is happy with the squad.

With the euros coming up it would be great to see if any top players not getting regular game time at CL clubs would consider a loan option to play every week in the premier league and make their national squad. If we could somehow get the right player (probably right wing/forward) he could really propel us forward on the second half of the season as James Allan Digne and Richarlison get added back in.

We could end up in a scenario where we have an absolutely rock solid defence with good cover across it, ahead of that Allan and Doucoure covered by Gomes Gbamin, then upfront a front four of Richarlison James DCL and the new loan player. Iwobi Gordon Bernard Sigurdsson would then be cover.

If some of our rivals started picking up injuries in key positions and we keep that team fit we could really do some thing in the prem this season.

Mate?

We aren't in Europe or the League cup - so only PL and FA cup to consider - squad is still too big.

I mean we can shift Bolasie and Besic without any effect at all. Delph can also go if Gbamin is returning.

Tosun and Bernard represent some depth and would need to be replaced by better options.

We may even be able to loan Branthwaite and Gordon - depending on how much game time they will likely get.

Lossl might as well go too.

Not that easy it seems like.

I don’t think this Jan window can be classed like the others. Clubs are really up against it... thankfully the PL seems to be the one exempt league probably because of global outreach.
There is great value this window... sad as it may be if we target the clubs who are really up against it I believe there are bargains like no other Jan window this time
This, the only thing to say about that though is we need it to be the right player not just any old one.

This time of year everyone seems to forget that the only payers you’ll get in January are players that are totally unwanted by their current teams. That means players like Bolasie and Besic for us.

So what players are realistically available that have nothing to offer their current team but will be able to come in and immediately contribute to our push for Europe? Even players like Doucoure and Allan took a few months to hit their stride here. We don’t have time for that if we’re only signing players with this year in mind.

Obviously I’d love to find someone who can add value immediately, but I won’t be surprised if we can’t find that. January seems to be better for finding young players for the future like we did with Braithwaite, Stones, etc.
