50 million is a lot to spend for a player that would either be pushed out by James in our best system, or necessitate James to be a bigger part of the defense by playing in the middle of the pitch.

I think we need to find a true creative wide player. I'm concerned that moving Zaha over there is like asking DCL to drop back and go get the ball - he can do it, but you're not getting his best when you request it.
We've shown with how we used Sigurdsson in a couple of the recent games that is possible to play a #10 and also not have much work to do defensively. Pressing yes, but actual tracking back not so much. I actually think that suits James better as despite the dumb reputation he's developing he's a good player pressing high up.

If we're going to keep Richarlison around we really need a winger who is a creator first. James is obviously that but I'd like to see him in the middle sometimes too. All these names, Zaha, Lukebakio, Bailey, they're all goal scorers first. Which isn't bad but we just have that area really covered.

It is why Buendia makes a lot of sense to me.
None of them or free or on loan, so its moot.

Is that Lukebakio that played 1 game for Watford before he was fired from a cannon?

Its a no from me.

Yes, I know, Salah, KDB, Lukaku, but still.

Aye he did.

Only 23 though, been very decent for Hertha (albeit Das SPL as you like to say) and has plenty of pace and power - also been getting into Belgium's squad as of late (though that may be more of a worry with Martinez).

I'm not saying that. What I'm saying is if you're bringing in Zaha for 50m he has to start, we don't have 50m for non-starting players money, so he either probably has to play the left or right with James playing centrally. Whether that is 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 that is really only what makes sense.

But Zaha doesn't really play the right (or starting this season the left) so you're already moving his position just to fit him. Possibly you're also moving Richarlison. All of this to accommodate a player who you're spending 50m on and still isn't good enough to move your current attackers in favor of.

I don't know it just doesn't make sense to me on basically any level. Now that we have James I just can't see a single reason.

See, I look at it from a totally different aspect.

I want a squad of 13-14 players who are quality.

This season is seeing games come thick and fast - we still have 4 games to catch up on (now 5), plus hopefully the FA Cup.

There is no lull.

I don't care if a player costs a lot. It's about options. If we can afford to have Richarlison or James on the bench or out, and the drop off in quality isn't massive, then we're going to go places.

If we signed Bailey, I don't think he gets in our 'best XI' - all of them being fit. But it doesn't, and shouldn't matter, because footy doesn't work like that. And fwiw, I wager we have our 'best XI' all fit / available for about 3 more games this season.

Bailey is different from Zaha in that I don't think he's a perfect fit but he is younger, actually has a history of playing on the right (in the last 5 years) which we kind of need and could still get better. I'd be ok with that one. Probably cheaper too.

Zaha is different and it is really just him that I'm completely opposed too even if I don't think a goal scoring wide player is what we really need to add.

And the games are thick and fast for like 3 more weeks. We'll be fine.

Buendia is too lightweight for me.

We need pace and power. That in itself is creative.

Bailey has scored four and assisted four in the Bundesliga this season (12 apps). He's created two 'big chances' and 17 chances in total, and his passing accuracy is 80% (very good for a forward).

For context, his 17 chances created is as many as Gnabry from the same amount of appearances, and one less than Brandt (who has played one more game).

He's definitely been more creative this season. You don't need to be a classic playmaker to be creative.

Bailey would have been cheaper had we taken the punt earlier this year. We scouted him. Whatever reason - maybe it was the Godfrey signing - we didn't move for a forward.

Bailey's been brilliant this season, Leverkusen are up there and it'd probably now take £10-15m more to get him than it would have done in September.

We don't need pace and power that badly that we should toss away a chance to sign people who can impact a game with the ball at their feet even when others aren't up for it. These last few weeks it has been staggering how far our play in possession falls off without James in the team and I think Buendia is an attainable player who can help fix that.

I like Bailey don't get me wrong it just isn't the exact type of player I'd go for at this moment.
