Everton January transfer window 2021

I said about 20 times we couldnt afford Hamez.
I said Kean didn't even know what Everton is.
Carlo Ancelotti at Everton? LOL

So yeah, nobody and certainly not me has a clue.

My concern is that people get into their heads that's its dead easy to do, just pay 50m and Zaha is ours, then when it doesn't happen, they get angry and blame the club, shake their fist and wonder why they didn't do this very simple thing.

But its not just Zaha, its 20-30 players, that the club should have signed, unrealistic expectations which fuels bed wetting.

Me I prefer to just say it wont happen, then be happy when it does.
Not wanting to do that at all here. I'm well aware we're in a very difficult position.

But every club is, and we could really be in with a shot of bucking the trend this season.

If we miss the opportunity, it'll cost us anyway. So surely the best course of action is to try and take that extra step while the opportunity is here. That doesn't need to be Zaha, of course it doesn't, but it also needs to be not £28m on Iwobi.

Moshiri put his hands in his pockets for the money which got us those players. Not all of it, but he helped top up the coffers.

Yes, he'll want it back, but they are interest free loans. They won't be based just on sales.
Didn't he get awarded shares recently and paid in part for them by wiping away the loans?

I'd go back and spend 28m on 23 or 24 year old Iwobi whatever he was at the time 100 thousand times out of 100 thousand before I spent whatever number Palace are set to demand for the currently 28 year old Zaha.

I just have a tough time thinking of a more nonsensical transfer for us to do than Zaha at the minute. Maybe if someone said we should go in for Jiminez right now or something like that. Bad price, bad age, bad fit. I like him for Palace so let's just leave him there.

I can't believe we keep bringing this up every window. It was time to move on after the summer of 2018.

Get what you mean mate but how many hot young players come over to the Prem and smash it right away? Only Suarez springs to mind and he wasn't that young (think he was 23/24).

Would just be another Kean situation where we need someone to come in and make an instant impact in the starting 11.

We'll be selling Kean for a profit in the summer so we realistically can spend that money early if the right player comes available.

The French League is skint, Palace/Wilf are in midtable realistically safe from relegation but out of the fight for europe.

Other leagues have teams with players who wont be getting much game time and may be open to a loan like Jovic, Khedira etc.

There will be opportunities to do business its just if the club / Brands thinks its worth taking the gamble on getting European football.

For me the gamble is totally worth it.

I think its madness to bring in Zaha at £50/60mil.

For that price you can sign Camavinga. Alternatively you could possibly get both Antony and Emerson to add options down the right.

We need to focus not only on the short term but also on summer 2022. From now till then we'll have had 15 or so players leave the club.

Almost all of the rotation/back up options arent good enough. There has to be a 2nd 11 of young players to come in to rotate and develop to really build a long term champions league team.

The young players we have around the squad (who have had games) are

GK: Virginia
LB: Nkounkou
LCB: Branthwaite
LF: Gordon
CF: Kean

We need to be adding players to this list...

If it must be 'first team ready' then Aouar or Guimaraes are a little older and would be likely starters

Any of these ever been linked or premier league proven?

Camavinga
Antony
Emerson
Aouar
Guimaraes

Not into football manager.

Jiminez, has he ever been linked or likely to pluck from Wolves who have been getting Europe.

Zaha is getting suggested because not only is he decent but he has been linked and wanted to come in the past.

Yeah he will cost, no there won't be a sell on but we're second with a chance of CL.

Iwobi has had a few decent games but in 18 months how many has he scored or created. He has been at the top level for years now and for a forward is not productive enough.

This is all lovely but!

Kean won’t be back, don’t think Carlos rates either Nkounkou or Gordon given that he chose to put an extra goalkeeper on the bench and not them

We are looking to buy Olsen, Lossl will go but I don’t believe Virginia is a long term option.

I agree with quite a few people on here, this is a massive opportunity here and one signing, or two for NOW could make the difference between Champions League/ Europa or nothing again.

Personally I will be surprised if we did anything and the opportunity will pass us by...maybe?

Disappointed that Carlo said we're not looking to bring anyone in. I guess the front office don't want to spend, because we're overperforming. The lack of ambition is embarassing. I know its COVID and no one is making any money from gate receipts and all, but Moshiri should take this opportunity while others don't. Look what Abramovich is doing bringing in players last window - and he will again in this window.

Anyway I hope Carlo is just bluffing and we bring in just one good player.

Either Right Back or Defensive Midfield. Sure we can play Holgate/Godfrey there but neither can hit a cross, and Coleman is one of the oldest members of the squad.

DM - Not sure I have that much hope for Gbamin, Allan needs to be freed up and Doucoure is a decent player, but he's not really the DM I'm looking for. The fact we have to play Sigurdsson, Gomes, Davies rotating through that role, seems like a problem area for me.

Striker - I think between Richarlison and DCL we're ok, probably need a backup striker in case both go down, in that case I'd go for a cheaper low risk but hard working player.

Where did he mention that we aren’t looking to sign anyone? I must have missed this.
I thought he toyed with the idea of signing Khedira in January.

Welcome to the forum.

I dont play FM either (I used to though), just because you havent heard of players (those 5 are very well known and it doesnt take Sherlock Holmes levels of deduction to post some info on them or at least their names) doesnt mean others havent.

Your shout for Jimenez (Wolves) is a bit odd seeing as hes broken his head...or something.

The Zaha shout is, as ever an abomination. Hes been playing centre forward and is 28. For Palace theyre asking £50mil or so for him.

Imagine wanting to spend £100mil+ on a 28 and a 29 year old for huge wages.

Utter madness.

Too much short termism thinking on this season. Yes, we all want champions league but the real opportunity is summer 2022 by which time, 15+ of our players will be out the door.

The starting 11 is absolutely fine aside from needing a starting centre midfielder and a right back.

Signing Olsen seems fine with me but a bit...whats the point?

Nkounkou and Gordon i think will make their mark in the coming seasons. Gordon is on a 5 year deal and Nkounkou new to 1st team football.

Centre forward: DCL / Richarlison / Kean / Tosun on the books. I think we'll shift Tosun somewhere this window....we'd still have 2 CFs in the squad.

As you say, Right back and DM/CM are the 2 positions we need starters in for the first eleven.

Centre/defensive midfield we should go for Guimaraes or Zakaria.

Right back, im pretty shocked Emerson hasnt been picked up with Barca needing cash

You seem really determined to play a CB in midfield. Godfrey has the effort and athleticism to do it but probably not the skill. I'd say best hope is Gbamin being good or Davies finding consistency. The rest is fine though I'd also like a RB at RB but Seamus is so bad at build up play that I can go either way with him at this point.

I thought he toyed with the idea of signing Khedira in January.

I heard it on an interview that he wasn't looking to bring anyone in when one of the reporters asked him about January signings. But now I can't find the clip - maybe someone else also heard something similar and can provide a link.

Also I don't want Khedira.

Hmmmm no! This is probably the best opportunity we have had in many years to get into the top four, we need to take advantage.

James and Allen are great signings that will take us for a further two to three years hopefully.

we bring in youth and promising world class players, how long to you think we will keep them for? unless we are challenging now, maybe two to three years?

Although we agree on building to a point, we will lose Rico in the summer if we don’t get champions league football, fine lines.... so we need to have success now, not also runs finishing 7th to 10th with a very promising youth team every year!

Poor JP, praying he makes it.
