Again talking absolute bubbles. We all know Gomes has been poor. Your talking about a league winning midfield not one that finished 12. Gini has 15 goals in 156 games. Henderson 27 in 281. So both have worse records than Mctominay. Keïta has 4 in 50. And Jones has 1 in 16. These are in premier league. Not counting easy games in Europe or the fa cup/league cup.

Gini by the way went 2 years without getting an assist, which is outrageous, considering the forward players in front of him.
how many assists do davies, gomes and delph have

the fact is our midfield contribute barely anything

I know what it looked like on a graphic in practice we had Davies playing deeper with Sigurdsson and Doucoure going box to box.

Other thing is why are you using Allan as an example? He's got 0 goals 0 assists.

I'm not saying any of the midfield does enough but I think we're kidding ourselves if we think there isn't a problem with the setup too.

i dont think that's right i think sigurdsson started as attacking midfielder and got moved to defensive mid after the bernard and gomes subs

i haven't mentioned allan stats at all

who cares?

you don't care that we have a midfield that barely scores or gets assists?
We have a 12th finishing squad before this season. And Ancelotti has one window and bought 4 players. We are still a long way away from get the squad he wants.

But if we had a fully fit squad today and we’re playing a game tonight, none of them 3 start. So that’s why it’s a who cares. Long term they don’t have futures.

gomes is contracted until 2024 and davies until 2023

with davies being an academy player, young-ish and english and with brexit rules coming in it is very likely he will get a new contract

will anyone come in to sign gomes - on his wages very unlikely

will anyone come in to sign davies - possibly the likes of newcastle and southampton but it wouldn't suprise me if we kept him on

You can sell people under contract, is it allowed

Sigurdsson stayed a bit further forward but he was clearly on the left more often, Doucoure on the right and Tom very center. To me that is more 4-3-3.

they have

even allan darts forwards

doucoure may as well have been an attackin mid that last game he was so far forward

even gomes was in their penalty box and almost got us a pen
And this about Allan darting forward. He isn't really. Because it isn't his job.

We've been playing 4-2-3-1 a similar way since Martinez was here and that way is never having the DMs really push into dangerous areas. We were doing that still when it was Gomes and Gana and we still do it to an extent now when we play that way.

I'm just saying the set up contributes to the players in those positions not getting goals. I don't necessarily think Gomes is going to bag 5 or more a season regardless but there was the half season when Tom broke through where he had 2 goals and 3 assists because he was further forward.

from what i have seen this season when allan makes a tackle he looks to make the forward pass and on a few occasions he has made darting runs towards the opponents box

the goal against burnley for example, he dispossessed the player, run forward a bit then put in a pass for richarlison who assisted calvert-lewin

The McTominay thing was because of a very specific tactic to expose Leeds over aggression. Fred has 3 goals in 90 for United. Having DMs who don't score isn't unheard of.

Indeed just look at Makelele, absolutely brilliant defensive midfielder with the goalscoring threat of Hibbert

Yeah he's a more forward thinking player than someone like Gomes but the way he's played this season is not for me an example of a midfielder having an impact in the final third.
