Everton January transfer window 2021

This is part of the problem. Allan's obviously good enough - he's probably our best CM, in fact. Delph, however, is poop and Gbamin isn't going to do much of anything for us before April. We actually need a pacy, young-ish, aggressive CM to come into the squad now, and he needs to be at least better than one of Doucoure and Allan.

If the reports earlier today of Watford sniffing around Delph are true then I'd happily sell him - he's got no future here and isn't presently good enough to even play ahead of Gomes or Davies. Clear more space on the payroll, bring in £3m or £4m in transfer fees and go get somebody young, fast and ambitious instead.

Agree 100% re the need for another forward too - not necessarily a striker because a wide man could be equally useful but the same principle applies - whoever comes in has to good enough to genuinely compete for a starting XI berth from day one.
I completely agree with the idea of Delph and gbamin not being the allan replacement but without european football or selling players (which is unlikely) would we be able to buy another who is good enough without spending another x amount on wages. We have Delph, Allan, Doucoure, Gylfi, Gomes and Davies now and none of them will leave the contract they have here in a rush. The only option that seems viable is either loan or an ageing player for 18 months with top level experience and each of them comes with potential issues.

Did anyone expect their to be either?

It's a buyers market. They dictate what they will pay.

I would to be honest mate.

He’s Turkeys high profile international centre forward, we paid them 20+ million, he’s a hero there, we’ve no centre forwards.

Don’t see the point, we’re short up front, getting nothing for this, giving him away for next to nothing to the same crowd after paying 20odd million for two and half years ago and they get the chance to throw him back in the bin if it doesn’t work out.

Just don’t see what’s good for us here, it’s a poor deal.

Today has shown us that without some incomings we will be lucky to get top 6 and the football world is much as it’s always been! Striker, cm, rb and keeper desperately needed to allow us to gate crash the party.

The Turkish Market is tiny though mate, and that was before Covid. In terms of fees, they are not far off where the PL was in the late 90's. Their just isn't the money available.

As for us, we get some of the wages off the books for 6 months. Maybe it's worth it, maybe it's not.

Surely with Bernard and tosun going we have one attacker lined up? (Flashbacks to letting Lukaku,Walcott,Kean leave and not getting replacements) nooooooo Everton go buy another DCL from lower leagues atleast

We get very little from him staying and paying his wages. There's nothing to say the clubs can't negotiate something in the summer.
We do need to bring in a replacement though. Crazy if we don't.

It's almost as if the world (and his value) have changed in those two and a half years.

Sorry mate, I think it’s a poor deal.

A lot of reports there was interest in Spain and Russia.

Ozil has just gone there and they can push the boat out when they need and want to. I’m not expecting what we paid, but a loan fee or an agreed fee obligation in the summer even taking a loss I would think would be worth our while. We’re just basically giving players away now. I can understand one or two, but Tosun has value.

Just don’t see the point of this, creates the illusion he’s gone, the squad will move on, but we’ve got nothing for him and he could be back in the summer and we’re short upfront.

We’ve a good 40 mill + of investment in strikers out on loan now, short up front and nothing coming in on them.

They paid nothing for Ozil and apparently the fans are paying his wages. Financially they are the same level as Celtic.

Did you read into how that deal was paid for?

Its not worth it unless we have a striker coming in on loan to fill the void in that gap.

They could go top of the Turkish league if they win there game in hand so i dont think theyre penniless either. We've just appeared so desprate to cut wages theyve taken advantage. If he does and hits 10 goals in 6 months and wins them the league it would appear theyve had us off twice now, but as its Everton that wouldnt suprise me.

i think we are trying it just takes time. A global pandemic has put paid to any signings in january. we added james, doucoure, allan and godfrey. All upgrades. we know we need to get rid of some of the others before brining in new faces anyway. Just takes time.

The most logical response here. We are going through a pandemic and people are losing their jobs yet some fans want us to sign Josh King for 130k a week..

We have a bloated squad and once the likes of Bernard and Tosun are gone, we should see some signings this window or the summer. The players who are being offloaded have barely contributed to the squad and will have no impact on the squad.

I mean with Ozil, I'm pretty sure Arsenal bought him out of his contract. I highly doubt they are paying him anything like what hes on at Arsenal.

I mean, selling to Turkey really is the equivalent of spawning your gold watch at the nearest pawn brokers. It's a terrible market to have to engage in, and you only do it when you're desperate.

That doesnt mean it's not a bad deal though, but I'm not shocked it's what theyve offered. He should never have been bought for the price he was.
