Everton January transfer window 2021

Nothing like a full on meltdown after a sh*t everton loss is there. All across twitter and the forum, the negativity is shocking. I know it was a bad result and we need to do some business in the window but christ, we're not the finished article yet.

We can't expect the club to shift out all deadwood and replace them with quality players in one season. That's just not realistic financially. I know it's a season of opportunity but I still think we have a squad capable of competing this year. We then build on in the summer.

If you think of the clearing of the wage bill we get by shifting Tosun, Bolasie, Bernard etc. then it sets us up to having a cracking summer (much like the additions of Allan, Doucs, Godfrey, James). I know we're all hungry for success but I think a little more patience is needed
no doubt the result and more importantly the performance Saturday has caused more panic than there would have been had won 4-0 with a really dominant performance but the concerns are valid. We have no attacking options from the bench. Is there any other team pushing for Europe with 1 striker?
I agree about binning the deadwood and trimming the wage bill but come the summer half of those players will be back. Tosun, Bernard, Kean and Kenny will all return and we'll be back to "well we need to move players out first".
We all accept Rome wasn't built in a day and no one was expecting big money signings this window but we equally weren't expecting our only attacking option from the bench to be a 19year old kid that has hardly played especially when we've seen in the first half of the season Richie, Dom, James and Iwobi have all had periods out injured. It's a massive risk. I think we're allowed to be concerned.

But we are the only team in the football league unable to have a striker on the bench, or even an attacking player.

No sugar coating makes that right or acceptable.
That’s all well and good next season but look at our bench at the weekend and then look at it against Leeds next game and think to yourself surely we aren’t one or two injuries away from disaster really?

I’m all for getting rid of deadwood, we aren’t really because they’re just being loaned out and will be back next season but it’s very short sighted to just let players go without some form of replacements lined up, squad is very very thin now. No matter how you try and sugar coat it.
I hear what you're saying and I agree that we desperately need to bring in an option up top. But to say that the squad is looking paper thin, I'm not sure. We have plenty of options in defence, with Allan, Delph and dare I mention JPG coming back, we have options in midfield. Yes we don't have QUALITY in that depth but I think it's enough without having to panic buy at the moment.

The only thing we need in January is a striker. But this is nearly impossible in a January window. We have the danger of just signing another Tosun to sit on the bench and do nothing, leaving DCL to still run himself ragged and not be rested. It's a difficult problem to solve right now

It's not as if the situation has came from nowhere either because we wilfully allowed Kean to go on loan and are now letting Tosun head back to Turkey.

Now, the argument regarding whether they're actually suitable options anyway is a different one, but we're now down to an isolated DCL and a off-form Richy.

As you say, it's not unrealistic to expect the club to have seen this gaping weakness and dealt with it, even if simply contingency planning for likely targets.
