Josh King would be such a massively underwhelming signing, even for a stop gap.

But if it’s the tea lady or him as the only back up for DCL, I guess we would have to be grateful.
 
With regards to King, if we haven't learned our lesson regarding 30 year old contract mercenaries at this point then we deserve to be pumped by them for all eternity.

If Carlo wants him, fine - we need a forward after all - but £75k a week at the very, very max and a three year contract at the very, very max. And that's assuming a negligible fee/signing on fee.

Personally, I'd just prefer us to avoid him altogether. It's not that I don't rate him really, it's just I'm sick to the back teeth of signings with his profile.

I seem to recall a good few 1-0 snoozefest wins the season we finished fourth and, funnily enough, nobody talks about the style of play from that season now.

If we DO get a forward player in, it'll be interesting to see what type of player he is. A lot of shouts for (and against) Costa this window but I think we'd do better to get a versatile player that can play across the front 3 or 4 positions to maximise his usefulness to the squad.

Yeah, I agree with that and is something we should have done in the summer window. We were already short in quality cover for the front 3 positions, but with losing both Tosun and Bernard, and with Simms out on loan, we are now seriously short in numbers too. Given James's fitness concerns we really can't leave ourselves in his position. I'd take loan deals for Costa or King right now, just to get bodies in.

But the lack of any credible rumours is very concerning.

Which is why I don't think Carlo will sign him.
We've been here before, desperate signings which haven't paid off.
Personally, I think we will wait until the summer.
 
Very surprised we haven't at least been linked with Isco - looks like he cracked the sads over the weekend.

He would be an excellent six month loan/option to buy. Desperate for a ball-carrying midfielder.
