Bristol City's top scorer for a few seasons is dithering over their new deal; the biggest one they have ever offered.

All quiet at Everton

Waiting on confirmation of two loan outgoings at Everton, namely Jonjoe Kenny completing his move to Celtic and Cenk Tosun returning to Turkey with his former club Besiktas.
It's all gone quiet, so far today at least, on Brazil forward Bernard's proposed move to Al-Nasr in the UAE.
Bernard looked on the way out of Goodison Park when, along with Tosun, he was not even named on the substitutes' bench for the home defeat to Newcastle United.
If Bernard does not move, will that impact on any plans Everton have to bring in another forward?
With Moise Kean on loan at Paris St. Germain and now Tosun off to Besiktas, it leaves manager Carlo Ancelotti very light in that area and increases the workload on Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, who is having a very indifferent season.
If Bernard goes, it may spark something into life with an incoming.

I'm not here to defend Liverpool's transfer dealings but i've just explained that? I think a panic buy would be the going out and buying someone just for the sake of it because they desperately feel like they need anyone just to plug a gap. That may then lead to them being stuck with an unwanted player on big wages that they can't shift. I would imagine that with this deal they aren't doing that, but instead have identified a way to potentially plug the gap and also turn over a profit. He's likely to not even want a massive pay increase simply because it's pretty much a once in a lifetime opportunity, and worst case scenario they should be able to get back their massive £1.5m investment in 12/18 months time. It might not work out that way, like anything, but I would guess that the opportunity has presented itself and they've decided it makes pretty sound business sense. Making out that ANY late deal is a panic buy is just daft, there's a difference between taking a punt and panicking. I'd look at the likes of Stacqualursi and Darron Gibson coming to us as punts, not panic buys. They're not your first choice by any means, but you think that the risk/reward balance is tipped in their favour. I'd say that deal would be along the same lines.

I certainly didn't think you were defending their transfer business mate!

I can see some sense in it. I suspect, even though it's a big opportunity there will be a hefty wage increase, as he has a bosman available, so in order to move they will need to get close to that bosman figure. The question will be, will their new wages be prohibitive for championship clubs (this is sort of their problem with Shaqiri/Origi).

I also don't think any late buy is automatically a panic buy or a bad buy. Lots of opportunities come late into windows. There's more risk involved, but risk can go two ways. My point was more than Iwobi was probably on a list, albeit further down a list, whereas Niasse looks left field. I imagine this Davies fella is on a list, but again a long way down. 4 days ago Liverpool were adament they didn't need a centre half, so there has obviously been some last minute re-think. They have got themselves into a bit of a mess, but I'd probably agree with you that they have been quite rational from the position they've ended up in, in clearly finding a CB from the championship who's out of contract.

Whatever we think of Iwobi, I do think the process was also "better" than with Niasse, but he sort of shows the limitations of just having lists based on data.

As for Davies, there will be a lot of b/s from their fans as there always is (who can forget that the Greek lad is the 2nd best left back in the league) and he isn't the best defender in the championship or in honesty in the top 3rd/1/2 of them, but it probably makes some sense as deals go even acknowledging that, providing they have kept the wages realistic.

With this lot I’d seriously consider 4-4-2 until Allan is back with Digne on the left of MF in front of Godfrey, Iwobi in front of Holgate, Dacoure sitting in and letting Rodriguez pull the strings for DCL and Richy up front.

Don’t think we have the personnel to play anything more expansive than that with options available.

I would do something very similar mate.

Bernard wages cover king. I think at this stage the only possible option.
