Everton January transfer window 2021

Because he's in charge of transfers.
And what?

Doesn't change the fact that you're giving him credit for bringing in 3 players who were clearly specifically requested by the manager at the time.

It isn't like Brands opened up his scout reports and said yeah, let's get them in. He was told to bring them in and they are making his transfer record look better than what we have seen from him when hes made to pick players himself.

You want to see what a Brands window looks like without anyone telling him what to do then go look at the failures of his second window.

His transfer record would look abysmal without Richarlison, James and Allan propping him up.

He's still the one signing them though.

Ancelotti says go to the shop and buy me a chocolate bar, Brands goes and buys the chocolate bar. Getting James here on a free, not £20m, not £15m is down to Brands not Ancelotti.

Except that as being in charge of the transfers those are all players he signed. I just don't buy that removing players arbitrarily is a good way to evaluate how Brands is doing.

I think the consensus is we have overachieved in a big way, and the limitations of the squad when certain injuries set in were exposed to such an extent that Ancelotti basically had to restructure the way we set up from scratch.

We had to add depth to kick on IMO. To put it into context, to get the same points from the last 19 games as the first, it'd give us 66 points - enough for the Champions League last season. I just can't see us doing that in the run in or even getting close. I'd be guessing at around 55 points, so 8th/10th.
I'm not saying tht we will achieve those lofty heights; in fact, I'm quite concerned based on recent performances and how depleted we are in terms of option.

My point, perhaps not put so well, was that there's still a fair way to go and as such we have the opportunity to pick up points if we can build momentum.

Do we have the potential to do so is a separate question.

Bernard isn't a miss if we get a decent fee.

The same is true for Kean.

Think Gomes is harsh, and Gbamin... well, that's just unfortunate.

I think the only misses for him are Iwobi and Deph.

Iwobi was a shocker.
It is. We have still paid him 120 a week for relatively little return.

The fee i have seen thrown around is 5 million which is about a year of his wages.

Kean is the same situation. We might get a return on him but that 30 million we paid last year is doing nothing for us this season.

Thats poor. His job is to buy players to contribute towards improving us.

Bernard was an OK squad option but is probably being paid at least double what he should earn. Kean had promise but we clearly should have applied the 30 million somewhere else that would produce a benefit to the club today rather than when we maybe sell him in the summer.

The only signing we are getting any value out of this year from his second window is Iwobi and even then it is still a terrible return on investment.

You honestly think Brands is the only person in the world who could have signed James for a free?

Its the same situation as us and the likes of Bolasie. They were desperate to punt him off their wage bill to anyone who would take him.
