Does Frank de Boer have what it takes to be Everton manager? via Royal Blue Mersey
The hunt for a new and improved manager begins with Frank de Boer as the bookies' favourite the past couple of days, so here is our analysis of his potential.
Frank De Boer took his own steps to finding a new job,
offering his resignation to Ajax who accepted on Wednesday morning, just a day before
Roberto Martinez was let go by Everton.
The Dutch manager has a prestigious name more outside the
Netherlands than internally for the direction he has taken Ajax during his six season tenure. That's not the only reason his reputation is highly respected however. During de Boer's playing career he won the league title 5 times, the Dutch version of the FA Cup twice and also has a Champions League winner's medal. Add his UEFA Cup winners medal from 1991-92 and the Super Cup in 1995 and you start to build a picture that Frank de Boer has been a winner in both his playing career and so far in his managerial career too.
Experience
The ex-Ajax manager comes with a healthy reputation having won the Eredivisie title 4 times and the Johan Cruyff Shield on one occasion. de Boer was at Ajax for 262 games, having won 158 of those, drawing 57 and losing just 47. That's a win percentage of 60.3%.
Not only that but de Boer was also the assistant manager of the Dutch national team team, when they finished runners-up in the 2010
World Cup. It takes great ability and knowledge to have such an involvement with a national team and get so close to the ultimate goal in world football.
de Boer's playing career must not be overlooked as a source for experience. The massive amounts of playing experience he has at the highest level is bound to have an impact on his managerial ideas. The Dutch coach played a large amount of his career at Ajax, a time span in total of 11 years from 1988-1999. During his time there he was part of a team that won the Eredivisie 5 times, the Dutch Cup twice and the Champions League and Uefa Cup on the one occasion. The defender then moved to Barcelona for three seasons where he won the 1998-99 La Liga in his first full season at the club.
Out of all the potenial candidates I think anyone would be hard pushed to find someone with such experience as a player, not to mention the exciting start he has made so far in his career as a manager.
Transfer market
That's just what
Everton need right now, a winner, someone who knows what it takes on a players' front and on a managerial level as well. The finances are most certainly available to bring in the best possible replacement for Martinez, we no longer have to settle for 'whats left'. de Boer has his teams playing possession-based football and his defences are of great importance to the overall success of his teams.
Frank de Boer has shown he can bring quality players through the door, something our club must continue to do. He has retained some brilliant talent at Ajax, preventing them from moving on without giving their all to his goal at the Dutch side. This steely spirit is something we had seen from Roberto in keeping
John Stones, but the difference here is de Boer may be able to provide the football to go with the talk. The media in Holland are fond of the spirit de Boer shows whilst pursuing a player, he attracts players that will fit to the overall target and not just the style of football the manager wishes to play on a week by week basis.
The former Ajax manager has shown a great eye for young talent, in particular his best signing might well go down as the clubs striker Arkadiusz Milik who is now 22-years old and has played 31 games for Ajax scoring 21 goals. Before joining de Boer, at Ajax, Milik was an outcast a Bayer Levekusen and was loaned to FC Augsburg. The Blues were
linked with the forward even before he made the move to Amsterdam, while David Moyes was still in charge.
Philosophy
As we've mentioned above, de Boer is renowned for his no-nonsense football and his teams incredible determination to control the game. As a defender in his own playing career, de Boer also prides his teams on having structure and straight forward defensive attitudes.
The boss was quoted as saying, after Holland's defeat in the World Cup Final in 2010 to

"They like to pass it for the sake of passing it, they think it looks good, but I enjoyed our game better. Strong tackles and all out effort."
Former players at Ajax under de Boer's managerial reign have talked of how the team is no longer focused on one player, it's a collective effort. Jan Van Halst, former Ajax player, said "This Ajax team has a lot, but no focal point". Sjoerd Mossou wrote in a Dutch newspaper, "No outsider, no artists, no rebel, pop star or teen idol. This is mainly down to the slick collective spirit Frank de Boer has forged".
Feasibility
It's highly possible. No longer do Everton have the strangling constraints of lack of finances, the money is there and it's on the table thanks to investor Farhad Moshiri. It is of utmost importance now that Everton spend on a manager that is a winner, that can provide a real know how. It's been three seasons of setting targets and resoundingly failing on each of those targets set. The Everton board don't sack managers lightly and now they have, they must ensure they make the right decision and replace Martinez with a top class manager.
Frank de Boer's twin brother, Ronald, has spoken to Dutch media informing them
his brother is interested in the vacant Everton job. Earlier in the week, his agent had also spoken to the media about de Boer
watching the situationat Everton and Valencia closely.
