Farhad Moshiri has plan in place to control more shares via Royal Blue Mersey

His holding has an option to buy more shares.

The Liverpool Echo is reporting that current controlling shareholder Farad Moshiri has an official plan to take on more shares. He currently controls 49.9% of the company and as such not a full majority controlling interest in the team. As it stands he needs at least one other member of the board to vote with him in any situation.

As of today though documents as part of his holdings show that he has an option already in place to complete a sale that would increase his shares to a majority holding. What would be the reason for this option instead of already taking a majority holding is unclear. It seems to me and others this may have to do with Bill Kenwright wanting to instill the fans with some assurance that Moshiri is not in this just to take over the team and rule it right away.

The other speculation is that perhaps the option to buy more is not active until certain interests are handled. The obvious guess with that is to do with a new stadium deal. It seems logical that the board would have less concern with Moshiri not investing in a solid squad after his work with Arsenal, but perhaps they want to see him put up the money when it comes to a new stadium.

If that's the case It looks like Bill Kenwright and the board will stay as is for the time being. It's unlikely a stadium is done soon, but even if the option is exercised with breaking ground we could be two to three years before Moshiri has a full controlling interest in the team.

The "Summer of Soccer" is here! It all kicks off tonight with a match between the United States and Colombia. Consider this post your spot to hang out in the comments and chat with fellow football viewers. Each day we will put up a new post for your Copa and/or Euro commenting pleasure.

On to the match at hand!

The USA comes into this game under immense amounts of pressure. The team has been a bit of a disappointment since their nice showing at the 2014 World Cup. They finished fourth in last summer's Gold Cup and is looking for a good showing at Copa. If they can get a point from this one, they will be more than happy.

Colombia is looking for redemption after last year's poor Copa America performance. They were eliminated in the group stage and star James Rodriguez struggled a bit. As the third-ranked team in the world, they will be looked at as the favorite in this group, certainly, if not the entire tournament.

The rest of group A is made up of Paraguay and Costa Rica

• Southampton could be due compensation if Koeman leaves
Everton are in talks with Southampton over an approach to make Ronald Koeman their next manager, with the Dutchman now waiting to be granted permission to discuss terms over a potential move to Goodison Park.

As revealed by the Guardian last month, the former Holland international defender was earmarked as the first choice to succeed Roberto Martínez by Farhad Moshiri, Everton’s new major shareholder. The initial suggestions were that Koeman, who joined Southampton from Feyenoord in 2014, would not be interested in moving to Merseyside despite only having one year of his contract at St Mary’s remaining.

Toffees closing in on their number one target…

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has told the club that he wishes to be allowed to talk with Everton, reports Paul Joyce of the Daily Express.

Everton are currently looking for their next manager following the sacking of Roberto Martinez last month.

A number of names has been linked with the role, but it appears that Southampton manager Koeman is at the top of the list.

A move for him accelerated this weekend, with reports suggesting the Blues have offered him a large wage packet and transfer budget to tempt into switching the south coast for Merseyside.

So far the Saints have failed allow the Toffees to discuss terms, but the Express claims they are quietly resigned to losing the Dutchman.

He has now also told the club that he wishes to speak with Everton, which should accelerate his move to Goodison Park.

Indeed, chairman Bill Kenwright is hoping to have a deal concluded by next week, with a compensation fee of £4million being touted for his services.
