Everton complete first summer signing via Royal Blue Mersey

The 18-year-old striker impressed this season at Coventry City

In a move that seems to bolster their youth, but nothing major that will be an influence on the next manager, Everton have signed 18-year-old youth player Bassala Sambou from Coventry City.

The forward scored 21 goals in the U-18 side and another four in the U-21's, but a path to the first team was not clear and with the ability to look elsewhere he decided a shot at the Premier League would be best.

We had reported on the Toffees interest in the Sky Blues player back in April when the forward was linked with a move to Goodison Park.

Coventry had promised the player a shot at preseason game time to claim a spot on the senior side, but Sambou decided that wasn't enough. That said he now faces a much harder set of challenges in a team with a suddenly large budget.

Even if Romelu Lukaku leaves this year you can expect the Toffees to fill the striker position with several options making Sambou, who has signed a three-year deal, a U-21 regular for now.

Don't expect much more action than this until the team decides on a manager and then perhaps even the Director of Football position as well. Once those spots are full we can fully expect the budget to be drawn up and the signings to commence.

U21 coach David Unsworth said:

"I tracked his progress over the whole of last season and he'll be a quality player to take into the Under-21 group and he's a really exciting prospect for the future.

"We're pleased to be able to take him here as I believe he'll be a Premier League player in the future."

Ronald Koeman agrees terms to become new Everton manager via Royal Blue Mersey

531683018.0.jpg

The Southampton boss has been swayed by the transfer funds on offer at Everton.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has agreed terms to become the next Everton manager, reports the Daily Mail.

The Toffees are currently looking for their next manager following the sacking of Roberto Martinez last month.

A number of names have been linked with the position, but developments this week have seen the Southampton manager become the hot favourite for the position.

The Blues have reportedly pushed hard to secure his signature, and it appears their efforts have been successful, with the Daily Mail reporting that the Dutchman has agreed terms with the club.

According to them, the Saints boss has been swayed by the transfer funds that have been pledged by Farhad Moshiri after meeting with the Everton shareholder.

He had initially been reluctant to leave St Mary’s, and indeed at one stage appeared to be close to a new deal, but the financial restraints at the club have convinced that a move to Goodison Park would be for the best.

A deal is not completed yet as Everton will have to pay up the final year of his contract with Southampton, which is understood to come to around £3.5million.

It is believed that Koeman is keen for it to be finalised before he goes on holiday next week as he plans to start work on Merseyside the following week.

• Ronald Koeman has one year left on his contract as Southampton manager

Ronald Koeman has agreed a deal with Everton to become their new manager, his agent has reportedly told Dutch media. The agent Rob Jansen said, according to the popular Voetbal International website, that it was now down to Southampton and Everton to agree a compensation package for the Dutchman, who has a year remaining on his contract at St Mary’s.

Duncan Ferguson will continue to be on the Everton staff via Royal Blue Mersey

507862470.0.jpg

'Big Dun' will be staying at Goodison Park

Former Everton player and member of Roberto Martinez's coaching staff, Duncan Ferguson will remain part of the setup at Goodison Park. Even while conversations with current Southampton manager Ronald Koeman continue with a view to the Dutchman taking over at the Blues, it appears Fergie's position on the bench will be assured.

The legendary forward is reported to have spoken to new majority owner Farhad Moshiri about his future at Everton, and will continue to be part of the first team setup.

Koeman's assistant at the Saints is his brother Erwin, and while negotiations continue for the Toffees to acquire the whole coaching group from Southampton, it is understood that a position for Ferguson will be created within that staff.

Ferguson began his football career at Carse Thistle before being signed by Dundee United in 1990 on his first professional contract. He moved to Rangers in 1993 for a then British transfer record of £4 million. He spent the remainder of his career in England with two spells at Everton (1994 to 1998 and 2000 to 2006) and Newcastle United between 1998 and 2000. Ferguson retired from football in 2006.

During his career, Ferguson won the FA Cup with Everton in 1995, competed in the qualifying stages of the UEFA Champions League in 2005, also with Everton, and participated in the UEFA Cup in 1999 with Newcastle and 2005 with Everton. He was capped for Scotland seven times but made himself unavailable for selection in his national team due to a dispute with the Scottish Football Association. He has scored more goals than any other Scottish player in the FA Premier League. Ferguson was noted for his aggressive and highly competitive style of play which resulted in nine red cards and a three-month prison sentence following an on-field assault of Raith Rovers' John McStay in 1994.

Copa America 2016: Start times, TV schedule and live stream for Sunday/Day 3 via Royal Blue Mersey

Some serious star power today as Suarez, Chicharito, Cavani and Rondon all take the pitch.

We are onto the third day of the Copa America and this time it is Group C's time to shine. Through the first two days, there hasn't been too much to write home about.

Yesterday, Costa Rica and Paraguay drew 0-0, putting the United States firmly in last place of Group A. Ecuador and Brazil played to a goal-less tie while Peru beat Haiti to take a surprising lead in Group C.

Today, there are two fixtures on the docket. First up is Jamaica and Venezuela. These two squads last met up back in March with the Jamaicans winning 2-1. Leicester City's Wes Morgan would be anchoring the back line for 54th-ranked Jamaica, but he is still tired from the Premier League season and won't feature today. Venezuela is the second-lowest ranked team (74th) in the tournament behind only Bolivia. They are supported by the scoring prowess of West Bromwich Albion's Salomon Rondon.

The second match of the day is the one everyone will be watching as Uruguay and Mexico meet up. It may be essentially a home game for El Tri in Glendale, Arizona as the University of Phoenix Stadium is less than a three hour drive to the Mexico border, and nearby California has a huge Mexican-American population.

On the field, it's going to be all about the goal-scorers. Former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker Chicharito had a big season with Bayer Leverkusen, scoring 26 goals in 40 appearances. As a 28-year-old now, he wants to help Mexico lift some hardware after missing last summer's Gold Cup with an injury. For Uruguay, it begins and ends with attack partners Luis Suarez (Barcelona) and Edinson Cavani (PSG). A win here for either side gives them the inside track on winning the top-heavy group.
