Euro 2016: Switzerland vs. France start time and live stream, plus Group A schedule for Sunday via Royal Blue Mersey

Who will take first? Third? It all gets decided in Group A today.

It feels like yesterday that Euro 2016 had just begun. But here we are, heading into the final round of group play. By the end of today, we will have two teams qualified for the knockout rounds.

The winner of this group gets to face one of the third place teams that squeaks through. The second place team gets the second place team of Group C. Right now, that Group C team looks like it will be Poland or Germany. So, there is still much to play for today in Group A.

France is already through to the knockout rounds. Switzerland will join them with a draw and may even get in with a loss. However, the Swiss will want to avoid Poland or Germany as well so they may have a draw-like mentality for most of the match before going for three points the last 15 minutes or so.

None of these four teams have been eliminated yet. However, if Romania or Albania want to have any hope of advancing, they both need to win. That will be tough since they play each other. So, while France v Switzerland may be the sexier match, Romania vs Albania should prove to be the more wide-open and fun game to watch on this day.

Koeman will look to solidify midfield position first via Royal Blue Mersey

468603862.0.jpg

The middle of the park is where the issues started

Everton were being linked with all sorts of names even before the announcement of Ronald Koeman as the new manager, thanks to majority owner Farhad Moshiri committing to spend over £100million in transfer funds this summer.

Now that Koeman is officially in charge though, it’s the midfield position that is being consistently talked about. The ink was barely dry on the Dutchman’s contract before AS Roma’s Kevin Strootman, his fellow countryman, was mentioned as a target. However, the player’s unfortunate injury history puts him in Darron Gibson territory, with only 36 appearances in three seasons. Koeman would be hesitant to develop his game plan around the midfielder with that background.

Next to be mentioned as the Blues’ pivot was Axel Witsel, who is at the Euro 2016 and scored yesterday alongside Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian has mentioned recently about wanting out of Zenit St. Petersburg and playing in England or Italy.

"I want to try a new experience in a different League, a new challenge.

"I hope to step up a level and play in a big European club. My future could be in Italy or in England. It doesn't matter if I go to Serie A or the Premier League, as long as it's a big club."

Now the latest player to be linked to the Toffees is one that Koeman has some experience with at Southampton. Morgan Schneiderlin established his reputation as one of the best holding midfielders in the English game at the Saints, but finds himself in turmoil at Old Trafford after just one season there.

New Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is said to be looking at different options after an underwhelming season in the midfield area, with his former pivot at Chelsea Nemanja Matic being lined up for a transfer.

Schneiderlin moved to United at the end of the 2014-15 season for a £25million fee, and the Red Devils are said to be looking for a similar amount for the player.

Gareth Barry will be another year older this coming season, and James McCarthy’s abysmal season seems to be continuing for the Republic of Ireland at the Euros, as witnessed in yesterday’s 3-0 loss to Belgium.

Which of the three midfielders would you like to see at Everton, or do you have someone else in mind?

Goalkeeper is first signing of Koeman era via Royal Blue Mersey

For the U-21s, though

18-year-old Chris Renshaw of Oldham Athletic has become Ronald Koeman’s first signing for Everton. To be fair, contact was made before the Dutchman’s appointment was confirmed, though it is hard to believe that any transfer decisions were being made without his approval.

Renshaw is yet to make a senior appearance, having started off his career with the Oldham juniors. The player is targeting breaking into David Unsworth’s U21 side with the starting job in mind this season.

“I’m really excited for the challenge. I know about the record of how many players Everton have brought through the Academy.

“That interested me a lot because there seems to be a serious pathway to the first team.

“Every time we played friendlies at Everton, I always used to say the training ground and facilities would make this an amazing club to be at.

“This is a step up but I’m looking forward to it. For me, this year is a development stage, so it’s about trying to get that regular football in the Under-21s.”

The search for a senior side goalkeeper continues in earnest after the departure of veteran American keeper Tim Howard, and question marks hanging over incumbent starter Joel Robles’ ability to handle the job.

The Toffees have been linked with a handful of players, but nothing concrete has come out of any of the rumours – Asmir Begovic (28), Steve Mandanda (31), Neto (26), Fraser Forster (28), Denys Boyko (28), Jasper Cillessen (26), Joe Hart (29), Kasper Schmeichel (29), and Tim Krul (28).

Euro 2016: Slovakia vs. England start time and live stream, plus Group B schedule for Monday via Royal Blue Mersey

Also playing: Wales and Russia!

Heading into the final day of Group B play, no team has been guaranteed a spot in the knockout stages nor has anyone been sent home. This should make for an exciting pair of matches

For England, a draw gives them a spot in the final 16. Slovakia may also be happy with a draw as it would give them four points and a zero goal difference; a good position for qualifying as a second- or even third-place team.

In the other game, Russia NEEDS a win and have been one of the more disappointing teams of the competition. They won’t want to have gone home without a single win. Wales may still be reeling from their late loss to England last week.

Koeman to be guardian of the Everton culture via Royal Blue Mersey

Ryazantsev.0.JPG

Club Director speaks out on manager’s appointment

Everton director Alexander Ryazantsev has spoken out following the confirmation of Ronald Koeman as the new manager. Ryazantsev, who commonly goes by the first name of Sasha, was interviewed by evertontv and spoke in glowing terms of the Dutchman who met the press for the first time on Friday.

“There is such a big concentration (of big clubs) in the north west that we could not have fallen behind. It was very important to appoint someone of that stature at the Club.

“We have always said that Ronald was our number one choice. It took us a while to get him but we have absolutely no doubt that we have made the right decision.”

The Blues would have been keen to ensure they do not become one of the forgotten as Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool have all appointed high-profile managers in recent times.

Ryazantsev also commented on chairman Bill Kenwright, saying he embodied the Evertonian spirit and that the new manager would have to be someone who understands that, and characterizes it as well.

“Bill Kenwright is a passionate man. He is the driving force and has been for many years. Of course he is an Evertonian and it is very important for us to keep that culture.

“We very much hope that the new manager will be the guardian of that culture as well. We want to move forward as a big Everton family.”

The Russian is considered to be the ‘eyes and ears’ of majority owner Farhad Moshiri. He is a member of the retooled Everton board, along with Kenwright, Robert Elstone and Jon Woods. Moshiri does not sit on the board himself, along the lines of other owners like Roman Abramovic (Chelsea) and Joe Lewis (Tottenham).

Instead, his long-term business associate Ryazantsev overlooks day-to-day activities at the club and has been the billionaire’s ‘finance man’, having held ranking jobs at Royal Bank of Scotland and Dutch and ABN AMRO Bank in the past.

Everton have tended to keep information close to the vest in the past, so it will be interesting to see if the Russian will continue to be in the limelight going forward, or if this conversation with evertontv was just a one-off.

Everton have eyes on Vincent Aboubakar via Royal Blue Mersey

511157514.0.jpg

The FC Porto striker is another target for the new manager

Everton have been linked with Cameroon international forward Vincent Aboubakar who plays for FC Porto and scored 16 goals during the last season. He would not be considered a replacement for Romelu Lukaku according to the Daily Mail, but as a partner up front. He is known for his quick pace and is a powerful striker.

Since taking the helm Ronald Koeman has been linked with several strikers who do not fit the outside wing position. These are interesting if you think the Blues can hold onto Lukaku and may signal a shift in philosophy. The last two seasons we have seen Everton struggling to force players into a 4-2-3-1 formation regardless of the squad or their strengths and weaknesses. Would Everton change to play two strikers for the first time in a long time with a secondary striker?

Koeman is known for his strong defensive ability and has the men on the back line and midfield to build a solid defense in my opinion. Would he be willing to play another striker up top and play more centrally than had happened under the Roberto Martinez regime?

Aboubakar is only 24 years of age and has a suggested price right now of £16 million. He is under contract until June of 2018 with FC Porto. It’s likely a signing of this kind for a second striker would mark the end of Arouna Kone and Oumar Niasse here with Everton.
