Manchester City reluctant to meet Stones price; alternative deal proposed via Royal Blue Mersey
Pep Guardiola is keen on the Everton defender but not his £50m price tag
According to the
Daily Mail, Manchester City are reluctant to meet Everton’s asking price for John Stones.
The defender looks set to depart Goodison Park this summer having been linked with a move for several months.
Manchester City are his strongest suitors, with Pep Guardiola thought to view the England international as the ideal addition for the City defence.
He believes that the manner in which Stones is able to play out of defence would be at home in the way he wants his sides to play.
So far a formal bid has not been made although reports suggested Ronald Koeman had already met with City chiefs to discuss a move.
However, according to the
Daily Mail, the Blues asking price of £50 million is one that even City are reluctant to match, despite having spent vast sums on the likes of Nicholas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala in the past.
Instead, they are trying to persuade Everton into a deal involving players plus cash, with negotiations on-going.
Stones is said to be disillusioned with life at Goodison Park, and believes that working under Guardiola will turn him into a much better player.
