Who should Everton get from City in Stones player exchange deal? via Royal Blue Mersey

Where can the Blues strengthen the squad?

It’s looking more and more likely that John Stones will be going to Manchester City during this transfer window. Apparently the defender has put in a transfer request saying that he would have a better opportunity to improve his craft under Pep Guardiola.

The media have reported that City are balking at the £50m that Everton have asked for the England player, and are willing to consider a player plus money exchange deal.

Taking a quick look down the City squad, there are a few quality players there that could definitely bolster Ronald Koeman’s side. We’ve kept the list down to players 30 and under, as getting another aging veteran doesn’t help the Blues. Also, we’ve skipped some obvious names like Sergio Aguero and Kevin DeBruyne who Guardiola will definitely not part with.

G Joe Hart – age 29, contract ends 2019

The goalkeeper had an abysmal Euro 2016 tournament, and has consistently underwhelmed for the Three Lions, but remains one of the better goalies in the Premier League. New signing Maarten Stekelenburg backing Hart up would give the Blues one of the best goalkeeping tandems in the country.

DM Fernando – age 28, contract ends 2019

Definitely a position of need for Everton. Gareth Barry is aging and cannot be expected to play at this level in every game. Koeman has been knocking on doors this summer for William Carvalho and Morgan Schneiderlin to upgrade that position, but Fernando could come in and start from Day One too.

CM Fabian Delph – age 26, contract ends 2020

City added Ilkay Gundogan this offseason, all but ending any hopes Delph had of having a future at City. A much-maligned purchase two years ago, can Koeman do something with him? Also, where would he fit in in the current Everton squad?

AM David Silva – age 30, contract ends 2019

The Spaniard has long been the main source of creative influence for the Citizens, but will Guardiola look to refresh the team and let him go? Also, would this move stunt Ross Barkley’s development, or does Barkley withdraw to a deeper position to link up play?

AM Samir Nasri – age 29, contract ends 2019

Another attacking midfielder, Nasri is right-footed but primarily plays on the left wing. Would he bring more consistency to that position? It’s quite likely that Kevin Mirallas will never start 38 League games at that position, but between the two players and Leighton Baines, the left wing could be a source of terror for opponents again.

S Wilfried Bony – age 27, contract ends 2019

Bony has mostly been a flop at City, but truly lit up the League when he was at Swansea City as a focal point of that attack. Romelu Lukaku has quite a few off days every season, and Everton’s lack of depth at the position meant former manager Roberto Martinez had to persist with Lukaku when a spell on the bench was required.

Everton reportedly preparing £46 million bid for defender via Royal Blue Mersey

Blues will splash the cash for Koulibaly

According to reports Everton have decided to target Senegalese international Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli. That reported bid would dwarf the rumored number Chelsea has offered for him recently. This report is gaining traction after the talk this week of Everton preparing for John Stones‘ departure for a supposed price tag of £50 million.

Koulibaly would be expected to step in and reinforce the backline with the departure of Stones, but at only 25 years of age he would not be an over the hill defender either. The main loss to Everton would be the home grown status that Stones has. That said Everton is less likely to value that compared to Manchester City who desperately need English-born players to meet that quota.

Would Napoli let him go is still in question, but £46 million would have to get talks going. Picking between Chelsea and Everton eliminates Champions League concerns, so as long as wages are equal this should be something that could get done. His current contract runs through 2019, so Napoli might be hesitant to sell so a large price tag is the only way this might get done.

Having said all that it seems like a crazy number and hopefully Everton doesn’t overextend itself. I’d hate to see us spend £100 million plus profits from Stones this offseason and return to poor days next season when we might need to build a squad to handle European football.

Everton are competing with Juventus to sign Moussa Sissoko, according to the guardian.

Juventus and Everton prepared to meet @NUFC 's £35m valuation of Moussa Sissoko. Juventus once Pogba to @ManUtd is done. Story to follow.

— Andy Hunter (@AHunterGuardian) July 21, 2016

Sissoko has made no secret of his desire to leave Newcastle this summer in the wake of their relegation from the Premier League and he said earlier this week that his priority would be to stay in the Premier League.

A number of clubs at home and abroad have been linked with the midfielder, including Liverpool and Arsenal but it’s Everton and Juventus who are now reported to be ready to firm up their interest in Sissoko.
