Don't get why we need to sell Stones. If we need 40m get rid of McGeady (2m), Kone (2m), Niasse (5m), McCarthy (15m), Oviedo (4m), Garbutt (3m) - they are all conservative fees and include wages and you're over 40m. Of those, only McCarthy would need 'replacing' and I'm sure there would be takers for all of them.

Hibbert, Osman, Pienaar - none of them need replacing and that's about 7m a year saved too.

Those names. Wage drain = money saved

Problem here guys is selling some of them makes for player trading losses.

But what about the youth?
  • Garbutt, Browning, Dowell, Ledson...others I can't think of now.
  • Surely they could fill holes left by Hibbert (never played anyway), Osman (Osman) and Pienaar (injured more often than not).
  • Del could do better under Koeman, look how he got Tadic playing for Soton.
  • Mirallas is the forgotten man but he could come back into the team, he was underused massively in 15-16. Move Kone on and use Kevin in his place on the wing.
If I've understood it, we have the Chang deal for one more year then can get a sponsor who pays more. Also give the commercial team another year to get more income, erm, coming in. Keep Stones and Lukaku (and Ross) and make do for a year. Then splash out next summer or January on some immense player.

It's very exciting but I'd be prepared to wait one season. Ive every faith that Koeman can get more out of this squad than Martinez did.

Shame we can't move Gibson on. Guy must be a helluva coach or something and theyre paying to put him through his badges maybe.

Ha ha but it's true isn't it mate? It's not quite as bright as we all first thought

I'm completely onside with you here mate. It's an utter utter shambles and we are essentially nothing more than a sell-to-buy stopping post for moderately ambitious players.

It's a joke really. A JOKE

As an alternative to selling Stones, I think our best options would involve selling Coleman and Cleverly who cost basically nothing so all their sale price is player trading profit.

Yeah, know what you mean mate.
I had a fortnight in Barbados and thought it was going to be wonderful. As it turned out I still had to get off the sun lounger to go the bar for me own drinks Pfft
Not as good as I first thought. Might as well have stayed at home.

Genuinely don't see why anybody would want McGeady (not even Championship standard), Kone (never been good enough, should do one to China), Niasse (somebody has made a lot of money on this transfer, needs binning off ASAP), Oviedo (always injured), Garbutt (didn't even perform well for Fulham, sell), Cleverley (Aston Villa is his standard, could just about stomach him being an option from the bench at best) at our club any longer.

Let's assume they are earning 50k, 40k, 50k, 30k, 20k, 40k a week (McGeady start, Cleverley end) - that's 12m saved a season. Not one of those players needs replacing because:

- Lennon, Mirallas, Deulofeu > McGeady
- We'll be getting a new striker anyway who is > Kone & Niasse, plus we already have Lukaku
- We've loads of youngsters (Kenny, Browning, Galloway, Holgate) who are > Oviedo (he's decent, but always injured, so what's the point?) and Garbutt will not dislodge Baines who still has a few years
- Cleverley doesn't even have a position, we have wingers and will be signing a central midfielder, plus those we already have are miles better than him

Then factor in Howard (let's assume 50k), Hibbert (40k), Pienaar (50k) all gone - another 7m. That's 20m saved from all of those players leaving, and from the 9 players I have mentioned here, only really 2 need 'replacing'; Howard and the position of striker (Kone/Niasse).

20m saved on wages, we replace them with a top goalkeeper on 70k and a partner for Lukaku on 80k - that is 8.5m a year wages for those two. Still 12m left saved in wages.

What with us actually having a WAR CHEST, that's some game of football manager Mr Koeman is going to be able to partake in.

Not necessarily. I'd imagine that the 'cost' will be amortised over the life of the contract.

So we could actually make a trading profit if we sell Kone for 3m say.

It won't be based on the amount we paid for the player (I don't think).

If we exceed the allowed salary expenditure growth cap isn't the only punishment we can face (so long as we are not in danger of insolvency) being punished by being fined a percentage of the excess expenditure?
