Championship
Ipswich Town - Matthew Pennington played full match in 0-2 away defeat to Leeds United

OS Match Report
"Pennington saw his header saved by Peacock-Farrell from Edun’s free-kick."
"Pennington in the right place to clear from Harrison’s cross"
"Pennington threw himself in the way of Dallas’s strike to deflect it wide"
"Pennington, not for the first time, spotted the danger to stop Roofe getting in"

Twitter stuff
16' Edun takes the resulting free-kick & it's met by Pennington who heads towards goal, but it's straight at Peacock-Farrell who holds. [0-0]

Fan comment
"Thought Pennington did ok but whilst they do work hard they are shot confidence wise"

Bolton Wanderers - Joe Williams played full match in 0-3 home defeat to Nottingham Forest

OS Match Report
"Wanderers came out with some menace early on, with a Joe Williams whipped cross into the area narrowly missing the intended targets on Clayton Donaldson and Craig Noone."
"Joe Williams had an effort at goal with thirteen minutes to spare in the second period, but his powerful strike on goal finished just over the crossbar."

Twitter stuff
Josh Magennis latches onto @JoeWilliams0812's perfectly weighted through-ball but he doesn't quite connect with the ball cleanly when attempting a shot. Unfortunate. (25)
.@JoeWilliams0812 delivers a superb first-time cross into the box which is missed narrowly on the stretch by @ClaytonThedon and @craignoone. Wanderers have started this second half very much on the front foot! (49)

Fan comments
"Joe Williams is xxxx as well."
"Williams, Everton loan, doesn’t give a xxxx. Just disappears if it looks tough. Probably playing because it costs us more to not play him."

..oh dear, the loanees appear to be having it tough at the moment. It can’t help if teams they play for are struggling but ultimately they need to impress.

Have to say that after reading these comments on our loan players, I am absolutely stunned to find that contrary to popular belief, Everton fans are not the only ones who expect players being picked for the first team to perform to a good standard regardless of age. A truly staggering discovery which has completely changed my view of the world.

..I suspect the reality is these are clubs at a lower level being loaned what they think are future Premiership stars. I suppose it’s similar to us acquiring an expensive purchase, the expectation level will be high.

I think it's just the same as when we have a young player really. Obviously we're all (generally speaking) capable of thinking that this isn't necessarily the best they'll ever be, but we expect them to produce the goods while they're in the first team. It's the same for these lads on loan, the fans of these clubs will judge them on their actual performances, not on how good they might be 3 years down the line.

48 Sandro Ramírez right footed shot from outside the box is saved in the top centre of the goal.
65 An excellent double save from Yassine Bounou – when he turned Sandro Ramirez’s effort onto the post before saving Mikel Oyarzabal’s follow upi
67 Willian José replaces Sandro Ramírez.

He also made a few comments about his time at Everton:

"I believe that my characteristics are not compatible with English football. With Ronald Koeman I played all the time, although it is true that I didn't play well. I did not score goals. He was dismissed and the year was very complicated. The team did not play well either and it was not a style that helped me. I had a bad time and I looked for the exit to Seville. I did not have luck there either".

feel a bit for the lad, just doesn't seem to be going his way whatsoever, hard aswell when he does seem like a good lad and works hard

That quote is surprisingly honest from him. I feel a bit bad for the likes of him and Klaassen. They didn't do much wrong and just got put in a bad situation by the Koeman Walsh combo. Hopefully he can find somewhere to succeed again.

I think its also important to look at the fact that they did do well last year, and we're not even half way into the season yet, so maybe we shouldn't get too down about the fact that they're struggling at the moment. There are a lot more factors that contribute to the success of a loan (or lack thereof) than purely the ability of the player in question. Countless successful pros had both good and bad loans before they made their breakthrough. Ultimately the loan system is quite flawed and illustrates that English football is one of the hardest for youngsters to break into. The 16-18 year-olds who are heading over to Holland, Germany, France, Portugal etc have got the right idea IMO.

Also, they are probably learning more from the bad spells than they did from the good ones, so this could help them become more rounded players in the long run.

Bolton Wanderers - Joe Williams played full match in 0-1 home defeat to Hull City

OS Match Report
"Joe Williams beat Tigers captain Markus Henriksen to the ball shortly after, smashing a shot just wide of the far post with keeper David Marshall beaten."
"A wonderful flowing move between Williams and Oztumer saw the latter play in Olkowski on the right flank."

Twitter stuff
.@JoeWilliams0812 shrugs off the attention of Markus Henriksen before dragging a shot wide of the target from just outside the box. (12)
After @JoeWilliams0812 was fouled, a ball into the box towards @ClaytonThedon came loose to @Erhun_A_Oztumer who skewed a shot over the bar from 15 yards out. (22)

No particular fan comments as yet (fans busy speculating about manager sacking)

Ipswich Town - Matthew Pennington played full match and was booked in 0-3 away defeat to Millwall

OS Match Report
"Freddie Sears sent Matt Pennington’s cross back into the danger area but Jake Cooper cleared"
"at the other end Pennington held strong to hold off Gregory"

No particular comments about him (fans busy talking about new manager)

Wigan Athletic - Antonee Robinson played full match in 2-4 away defeat to Sheffield United
Callum Connolly started, was booked and was substituted in the 58th minute of the same match

OS Match Report
"It could have been worse in first-half stoppage time but Robinson did well to get back and stop McGoldrick when he burst through on goal."

Twitter stuff
45+3' SUPERB from @Antonee_Jedi! Latics almost undone for a third Sheffield United goal on the counter attack, but Robinson races back to block and keep the gap at one goal. (2-1)
52' Chance! @NathanByrne_'s cross from the right is met by an @Antonee_Jedi cross from the left, @NPowell25 comes racing in to meet it, but he can't keep his header down! (2-1)

Fan comments
"So who goes to the left and right of Windass. Under no circumstances can it be Connolly as he should be back at Everton by now surely"
"Connolly and Dunkley were rotten"
"Connolly, vacant. Doesn't put a shift in, gives the ball away cheaply. Makes a lot of mistakes. Doesn't look comfortable anywhere in midfield."
"Robinson stayed at home for almost the entire game, was afraid to get forward."
"Connolly must be the only player I know that has ever managed to stay invisible as a central midfield player. He has a special talent for hiding. At least Morsy never hides, always looks for the ball and puts his foot in, I remember Connolly ****ing out of one early on which set the tone. Him, Dunkley, Burn were abysmal today. Robinson was okay by his standards considering they targeted him hard down that side knowing he was the weak link. The break looks to have done him good."
