...chatting with a Fleetwood fan today. They really like Henen but feel he can be a bit wasteful in front of goal.
It must be hard to coach that though would it.some lads are just born clinical.give them one chance and your guaranteed a goal.other lads then need 3 or 4 chances to get a goal.

....to be honest I think he's like that at U21 level but hoped it might be down to the fact that goals aren't as critical as in league football. I hope the transition would concentrate his mind. I think some kids are prolific scorers, he's a talented footballer who needs to get in a different mindset once he's created his chance.

Ya felt that way myself reading it.is he in a long term contract?surely 27 years of age with the injuries he has had and still seems to pick up his prospects cant be good.never seen the lad play so i dont know exactly how good he is but doncaster reports seem positive enough.

Nah his contract runs out at the end of the season, Martinez obviously just taking a chance on him in the hope he could get past his injury issues

Liam Walsh to Yeovil on a loan for a month. Good move for him I believe.
Although only a month younger than Ledson they were in different Scholar years so Walsh has a year less of " full time training". On the face of it it's a tough ask to be pitched into a relegation battle at the bottom of League 2, the positive aspect is that our Academy staff think he's up for it and he gives the impression that despite his comparative small stature he's willing to mix tough tackling, hard work with his undoubted skill. It is a long way from home and he'll be our youngest loanee playing in the Football League - great experience for him if only for a month.

I'm excited by all our young players out on loan, but I have the greatest affinity (sympathy ?) for Felipe Mattioni. I've been running for over 35 years but hit big problems 15 months ago which stopped me running and every time I tried to come back a new injury popped up somewhere else. When you have a long lay off getting back requires careful management , and his injuries have been calf then hamstring which are different from the cruciate ligament injuries he had previously. I do admire him accepting a loan out to Doncaster , I doubt if he'd heard of them six months ago and by all accounts he was knuckling down making a go of it prior to the injuries, and you couldn't ask more of him.
Most people have dismissed him and don't think he'll ever play for us and yes it is a gamble , the difference is it's barely a gamble for a club like ours , if he doesn't make it, it will be shrugged off , nothing missed just a wee bit of money spent. For him it's in all likelihood career make or break time. I'm rootin for the guy to make it back and play consistently again even if it's not for us .

Everton loanee Ryan Ledson is made of the right stuff, says Cambridge United boss Shaun Derry

Cambridge United boss Shaun Derry believes Ryan Ledson has the right character to succeed

Shaun Derry believes young Cambridge United loanee Ryan Ledson's attitude will serve him well.

The 18-year-old midfielder extended his loan deal from Everton for a further month just before last Saturday's 4-1 defeat at home to Wimbledon.

While Derry was delighted Ledson would be staying at the Abbey for longer, he felt the teenager had suffered a slight drop in form over the last couple of games.

However, he praised the youngster for continuing to give his all even if things were going against him.

"Ryan has had a great loan for us and he wants to stay and continue playing for the club, which I think is great," said Derry.

"But he's 18, don't forget. We knew there would be a dip in his performances, but what do you do?

"Do you try to look for that perfect performer every week? You just don't find that, so sometimes you have to take a little bit of rough as well.

"I noticed in the piece by (chief executive) Jez (George, in the Wimbledon programme) saying that he has always shown, he has never hidden, even when the troubled times have come.

"He hasn't played as well in the last two games as he performed perhaps four or five games ago, but his character is there and I think that's what you've got to look at as well."

Derry felt Ledson would benefit from being able to remain with United despite admitting other clubs had been interested in taking him on loan.

He said: "It's really difficult when you're entering the loan market because ultimately you get the players in and you want to create that home really quickly, and we've been lucky we've been able to do that for our players.

"We've got a facility that's great in terms of putting them in a house, which is ours, and when young players go on different loans, I think they lose a little bit of what's actually home.

"We've created a really good home for Ryan and he loves being here.

"We know we're not signing Ryan Ledson, of course. I think he's going to be a really good player, but for the short term he wants to be here and I'm delighted he is."

A nice write up on Ledson , good perspective about looking after him , giving him a house. The comments about a recent dip in form are echoed by posts from their fans. Apart from a spell December when we seemed to crowd too many fixtures in a short period , we rarely overplay our youngsters at u18/u21 level so these matches at Cambridge may well have been the most concentrated period of games he's played. Plus moving into a new club, training with new players , new regimes, all older etc bound to take a toll on him a bit and at 18 a dip in form is likely to occur from time to time. As long as they are looking after him , which they appear to be doing. It should be interesting if Ledson and Liam Walsh clash in a League2 match!

cambridge play yeovil 19th march, suppose theres a chance they'll both still be at the clubs in 3 months

Doncaster are doing their pre-Stoke press conference with the manager and, a little randomly, Conor Grant

Apparently Mattioni is back with us, not sure if it's for good.

I'm assuming that that is as per the pre -Christmas news .Then Ferguson said he had a hamstring injury which he thought wasn't too serious but wasn't sure , so he sent him back to us for treatment. Although they have a seasons long loan in place, Fergus is shrugging his shoulders and saying if it's a long term injury he can't afford to wait and would go looking for another right back/wing back loan, if it's short term he'll go back.
Edit: err interrupted response, atrottel 's is the shorter, succinct version!
