League One
Wigan: Francisco Junior - started on bench, brought on in 80th minute in 2-2 away draw at Bury

Sample Fan Comments
Don't understand why Junior doesn't get a start - he is by far our best midfielder in my opinion.

Holt and Junior definitely made a difference. Why Junior didn't start I don't know.

Needed Junior on a lot sooner, quite flat and didnt create anything until junior was eventually brought on...different class

Full whack today...

Championship
Charlton - McAleny starts in 0-1 away defeat to Reading (Charlton conceded after going down to 10 men in 70th minute)

OS match report

Sample fan comments (!)
McAleny - 3 (what's the point of this loan when we need a keeper and striker?)
McAlney 4 - not good enough for Championship football
McAleny - 4 Feeble
Mcaleny 4 completely ineffective
McAleny - 3 Shocking
McAlney 4 - positional sense in 1st half was dreadful. Luckily Reading didn't make the most of this
McAleny - 4 offers nothing, shouldn't be in the team

Championship
Fulham - Garbutt starts in 0-0 away draw with Middlesbrough

37' Garbutt finds Christensen in space on the left. He crosses low towards Dembélé but Konstantopoulos gets down well to save. 0-0.
58' #ffc are defending well but a loose header from Garbutt allows Leadbitter space to shoot. Fortunately he skies it 30 yards over.

OS match report

No particular fan comments

League One
Wigan: Francisco Junior - starts on bench in 5-0 home win over Colchester, comes on in 61st minute (when 4-0 up)

OS match report

Jordan Thorniley's loan to Stockport County has finished.

Championship
Charlton - McAleny starts as sub, brought on at half time in 0-3 home defeat to Preston (Preston move out of bottom three and Charlton replace them)

OS match report

55' Cynical trip on McAleny by Greg Cunningham. He's booked.
82' McAleny shoots off target after spinning away from Bailey Wright.

Sample fan comments
McAleny - 3 (End his loan tomorrow)
McAleny - 5 (think he's crap but played ok compared to everyone else)
McAleny - 2 bugger off back up the motorway
McAleny - 6.5 Gonna sound weird but the best I've seen of him, looked very lively
McAleny - 3.5 not sure what he brings. Not the sub we needed at the time
McAleny - 6 lively but no end product
McAleny - 6.5 tried to find space when came on
(Should be noted that every player's rating was understandably bad after 3-0 home defeat.)

Championship
Fulham - Garbutt starts in 1-1 home draw with Leeds, booked at end of match

OS match report

29' A dangerous cross is well dealt with by Burn at the back post. Garbutt clears.
50' Garbutt does well to tidy up as Lewis rushes off his line.
56' Garbutt swings in a dangerous set piece but Burn is offside.
75' Lewis to the rescue again. He makes a save low down to his left and the follow up is cleared out for a corner by Garbutt.

Bit of a discussion about whether Garbutt starts for next match (another player is now available) but otherwise no particular comments.

League One
Wigan: Francisco Junior - not in match-day squad for away win at Peterborough

Thanks for the regular updates @atrottel - super stuff, and one of my favourite threads on the site. McAleny certainly seems to have fallen down a peg after his goal in pre-season. It's interesting that Junior doesn't seem to be picked much, despite fans rating him so highly. I hope there isn't anything behind the scenes that is putting the coach off him.

I'm not too concerned about Garbutt. The key thing is for him to get competitive minutes under his belt. I'm sure he'll improve as he's a good player.

Leaving out the non-League loans, it's really quite a mixed bag.

On the one hand, Barkley didn't rip it up on loan (in fact, I seem to remember him being quite heavily criticised). But then he was younger and not everyone can be a Coleman. You would hope for better from McAleny, given his age and career stage. but probably not ideal being more of a finesse player in a struggling Championship side. Same with Grant at Motherwell (back with U21s now) and Kennedy at Cardiff (currently Championship bench player) last year.

With Junior, the skill is possibly all there but again, given his size, he is really going to have to stand out to get a manager to pick him consistently in League One.

Garbutt - he might be good but is he good enough (remember he is coming back from injury)? And do we have enough space to carry four left-backs, all of whom have a claim at the first team? Especially since they would be blocking any other talent coming through from younger groups. Personally speaking, I think he has a year in the shop window - if Baines declines and he beats out the competition then he stays with us. If not, he gets sold on to a decent club.

McAleny will be off i think as will a few others while the stand out players who mostly @catcherintherye updates on will hopefully come through.

Junior seems rated by the fans so hopefully we can move him on....Garbutt will become competition for Baines next season i think once Oviedo's contract expires.

I didn't think McAleny would still be here this summer tbh. He might show the odd flash in a pre-season game but he's 23 now and still nowhere near the first team and struggling in the Championship. Needs to be sold in January/summer and same goes for Junior.

Great reports.

I like Garbutt, good player, but as pointed out he's currently 4th. in line for the LB spot with some good youngsters coming through. If I were him I'd be looking at a move to a club that doesn't have so many boss LB's.

I started to pay attention to McAleney after some of the pre-season hype, watched some of the U21 games in which he played and just didn't see it, why the hype ? All I saw was an average Sunday league player who seemed more concerned with his dodgy hairdo than putting a shift in and impressing on the pitch. I saw me > 20 years ago when I thought I was the dog's doo~daa's. C'mon Conor mate, you're f'all, work hard and even if you don't 'make it' at least you can't say it's not from lack of effort.

Tbf it's because he genuinely did boss a couple of pre-season games.

I'd say Garbutt is 4th choice for this season only which he's fortunately on loan for. Next season I can see Bryan moving on as I don't think he's as good as any of the others and will be on higher wages. Galloway is playing well there but next season I think he has to be moved inside to cover for Jags who'll be 35 and might not manage the amount of games we'll be playing which would to me put Baines 1st and Garbs 2nd.

It was this game that made people pay attention to him, he doesn't seem to be playing to the same standard now though

Big step between pre-season and competitive footy i suppose.looked dacent in that clip though.pity he's not pushing on.could it be he was just loaned out to the wrong club?
