Transfer Rumour Everton poised to make £25m bid for Celtic full-back Kieran Tierney

Very good points and I completely concur.

I think money has certainly contributed to the downfall of the England national team, mainly because of the shrinking player pool that the national team has to play with. Last time I checked the percentage of overseas players playing in the EPL is about 75% and growing. I'd put a 3 foreigner rule in place. There's going to be the odd person saying that it's against "EU freedom of movement", but there's a loophole, the loophole is that a manager can bring in as many overseas players as he wants, but he can only play three.
I certainly think money is the downfall of genuine competitiveness. Of course I would love for Everton to have been taken over by an oil sheikh and battered the league like Man City if being an also ran is the alternative. However considering the cash they've spent it has a hallow feel to it.
As for the England national team, I couldn't be less interested. Over the last 2 decades, whenever an Everton player does well there he's too good for Everton. Conversely whenever an Everton player is within a stones throw of an England defeat it's their fault.
Sincerely hope Pickford gets a gentle upset stomach, misses the next game and the rest of them are tonked 5 without reply.
In trying to be fair to them, under Southgate they seem to be doing ok. I think his relaxed, down to earth demeanour rubs off on them. 'The Golden Generation' were a bunch of egotistical arrogant big heads, Lampard and Scholes apart.
Anyway, genuinely and without the slightest of sarcasm I hope Scotland get to euros in 2 years. You're a sound bunch on the whole and a proper footie nation.

Man City have shown just how important the full back positions are in a team - both in defence and attack. If he’s as good as people say then pay the money, get him in and have him on a 5-6 year contract.

Good point this

He'll leave Celtic this summer. His stock is as high as it'll ever be and Celtic have that model of selling one for big money every couple of seasons - spending a bit of the cash...just enough to keep them top dog up there...and banking the rest.

However, I reckon - as per usual - Everton are going to be the means used by his agent to flush out interest from other clubs.

In their scheme, you mean. It’s not as important in other schemes. It IS really important in Silva teams IMO. He loves to build out of the back and get his fullbacks forward. He also like to have his CBs help get the ball forward. We have almost no CB that does that well.

I don’t think you are wrong, but is he good enough to walk into any of the top 4-6 sides? He’s good, but he’s not THAT good.

Well United need a LB like.

Not sure the others do.

Mourinho tends to go for the finished product though and with him under pressure to close the gap to city I think he’ll want a more established player. He’s already spend big on a young defender from Portugal, I’d be surprised if he goes for another young defender for big money.
