Everton reopen talks with Sam Allardyce

I'm really down about this

It's an appointment that stinks of failure

Hopefully he's only here on the short term. I can live with that if he keeps us up

If he gets signed to a 3 year deal then I'm going to be furious

He'll get signed on a two or three year deal but if he keeps us up we will just bin him in the summer. He won't be arsed, he'll retire on his last massive pay off and we can move on to getting the manager we really want long term. Survival this season is absolutely key though, nothing else matters right now. No fantasy "project", no Spurs-style building a team to get into the top 4. That has never been further away.

This guy may well be able to put out the fire, but
he will not be able to rebuild the house, and he will never win any awards for architectural design.

That's fine.

Everton are a house on fire so you need the fire brigade first, before you bring in builders to rebuild.

If a house was a blaze, there isn't a much a builder could do.

You still here? Must still be concerned, because if I was so convinced it wasn’t happening I wouldn’t be on another teams board, in fact I wouldn’t be on another teams board at all.
Ahh come on! I mean no harm. I’ve been mainly respectful on the whole and only react to posts that I find laughable about our manager. When the posts are balanced and fair, I give a balanced and fair response.

Taking your point, yes, I was concerned. Very concerned. Always thought it was unlikely he would leave and said as much but the lack of certainty on Silva’s part had me worried. Not saying it’s impossible but there is minimal chance you are getting Silva in the summer now. It’s early days but if Silva keeps us going in the trajectory we are currently are, why would he walk in the Summer as has been suggested? He may leave for a Top 6 club if a job becomes available. Or for a team in the CL on the continent. But the Premier League is the place to be and he joined us over Porto in the summer. Don’t make too much of this so-called break-clause because IF it exists, it’s unlikely to be a clause that means he can just walk or leave for minimal amounts.

Anyway, I digress. I’m sure you’d rather talk amongst yourselves at this stage and don’t need advice from a fan of another club, I accept that. All I will say is that I have read lots of debate on here about the quality of your squad - sometimes a squad of poor individuals can do well by playing as a team. I’d say that should be the focus regardless of who is on the touchline.

We need to rid ourselves of any delusions that we are aiming higher than avoiding relegation. We have just that one target now - PL survival. The manager should reflect this; we don’t have the luxury of taking a gamble on an unproven, potentially-great-in-the-future manager. We need someone who knows how to keep teams up. As much as I can’t bear the idea of Sam and Shakespeare at the helm from a pride point of view, it’s the right appointment at this time.
