Everton Summer 2024 Transfer Thread

It would be pretty criminal if we don't have left-back cover by the end of the window - unless Dyche thinks McNeil can fill in or we do some sort of wing-back system with 3 CBs ?

I imagine it's not as high on the recruitment team's priorities as yours. Young was re-signed for that. There's probably a thought that Branthwaite and as you say McNeil offer cover there as well.

For me, right back is the biggest priority right now, our right backs are as 4 million year old Coleman and a very suspect Patterson. We need better quality there to go right in the starting XI.

As you well know, I am not doing that.

I honestly didn’t think you’d resort to things such as saying ‘Hoof’ as a summary of an entire way of playing and then the classic ‘so are you saying he’s better than Guardiola then?!’ whenever another manager is used in an argument as a reference point.

My point is simple. If one of the best managers of all time (hope you can read that line) came 10th with a significantly better group of players including James Rodriguez, does Sean Dyche not serve some credit other than ‘HOOF’ for finishing only 11 points less in probably the most chaotic season in our prem history with a far inferior squad?

To add to this, if the best manager in the world assessed these players and thought the best style for them was low block and counter attack. Why do people expect front foot sexy football from Dyche who has considerably worse resources at his disposal?
Dyche does get credit for last season though from many fans who never wanted him here including myself. He did a great job at galvanising a group of players who's heads had dropped massively, got us doing the basics well enough to survive which is what we needed at the time.

The football is really poor though and that's plain to see. Eventually that starts to have an effect on players and fans, and the morale that he did well to build in the first place starts to fall. No one expects Dyche to suddenly start playing front foot sexy football but that's the issue really. We're starting a rebuild and he should be nowhere near it.

Personally think if the Friedkin deal had gone through he would have been replaced.

Agree. I think his football is unsustainable tbh, we have next to no attacking intent, so a slight drop off in set pieces (an injury to Tarks for example) and we will have a big drop off in results. It’s cowardly football in an era where that has long gone.

…..the difficulty is the dependence is on the player. I’m sure the club would sell given his contract situation but until he gets an offer from elsewhere he’s happy with, the situation will trundle on.
This. Beto is not challenging him. Neither is Chermiti. But DCL is sometimes good but not often. We need a half way house , someone a bit proven but young.
Let me introduce ….
