Everton Summer 2024 Transfer Thread

Bounce game for Dele before contract talks

The club's approach seems quite sensible given our financial constraints. We're dealing with a player who has faced both mental and physical challenges, but who was once among the best in the world in his position. His talent far surpasses what we currently have in the squad.

I tend to be sentimental about these situations and love a good comeback story. My heart was telling me we could restore him to his former glory, but my head reminded me that it might not be the wisest choice given our financial limitations. However, after witnessing Ross's return to form for Luton last year, I realised that players can indeed make a successful comeback. While Ross's journey differs from Ali's, it has changed my perspective.

If Dyche and Kev believe he can regain his form, then I fully support the decision.

Hope Dele can get back to somewhere near his best and earn himself a contract, top talent and still young, miles better than Smith Rowe who Fulham have just paid £30M for and has played hardly any football at all for the last 4 years
Long shot but would be fantastic boost for the team if we could get him right (big if I know)

Maybe a sign of increased competition as more and more seem to be going down that route also, or they have ran out of the player lists left by their former DoF when he left

Without getting too technical, capitalism and football are cyclical. It's hard to keep an advantage going for long. Think of Wenger in France, Southampton or Leicester, to a degree us under Moyes from the championship, now Brighton, even a bit Liverpool in the early part of Klopp.

You can have an advantage, but then the football world notices and starts copying, effectively arbitraging away your value. Teams start to ask for more money to sell, buying teams start copying where you buy from or the players you buy and teams start to take your infrastructure.

The thing is, it takes time for that change to filter through the football ecosystem to be recognised. The media is normally like 2-3 years behind.

If you look at Brighton though, they've spend 150m this summer. That's like huge investment. I'm amazed they paid over 30m for Minteh too.

Liverpool are another one at the opposite end, pre-occupied with perfection, but ultimately haven't closed a deal yet, and haven't bought a number 6 despite 3 years of trying.

Does it have to happen before deadline day, or can we register him anytime whilst out of contract? If before deadline day, not sure how much he would be able to show bearing in mind that he is just back in full training a few days ago.
Whenever player registration for the first half of the season closes. There's every chance that we wouldn't even register him before January even if we do offer him a contract.

Back in 2019.

If we are silly enough to offer him a contract this is like a former chairman decision based on sentiment. The reality is that he has been on a free since 30 June and no club dares to make an offer. This speaks it all.

@GrandOldTeam Our glorious leader...may you open the Dele thread so we can read about how he's had all the under 21st snus please.

Thank you Myyyyy Looord

I can't

Its last seasons thread.

He's not a player so can't create a thread for him.

So it's either here, or a new thread as a transfer rumour. Probably best here for now. If he signs, he gets a thread with you in the queue as sponsor.

I think with half a leg and no football he would still have more talent than Mcneil, Harrison and Doucs.

I think Dyche said he was being loyal with what the club had done for him, before he made a choice of club.

Smith Rowe is a really good footballer. Would be wasted under Dyche but the Everton I want to see would definitely have been in for him.
Dele has just had 18 months out with a groin strain!? He ain’t getting back near his best.
